1946 Rayne Lions Club Frog Derby
1946 Rayne Lions Club Frog Derby
This bevy of Frog Derby beauties with their frogs were some of the contestants of the 1946 Rayne Lions Club Frog Derby held at the Rice Festival in Crowley. The frog jockeys would jump their frog, and whoever's frog jumped the farthest would be crowned Frog Derby Queen. This tradition was continued into the first Rayne Frog Festival held in 1973. The Frog Derby was a major factor in the success of the festival. Shown from left to right are Ethylene Comeaux, Geraldine Kennedy Gueno (who was later crowned Frog Derby Queen), Janell Plattsmier Domingue, Joyce Zaunbrecher Faulk, Kathleen McBride Leleux, Betty Babineaux Kennedy, and Alberta Broussard Gossen.
