Florine Hamlin Vessel Florine Hamlin Vessel, beloved mother of Martha "Marty" Banner, left this earth on Saturday morning, June 6, 2009 with her daughter at her side. To those lucky enough to meet her, she always had a smile on her face and humor in her heart.

Florine Hamlin was born July 15, 1919 in Dawson County, Texas to Robert David Hamlin and Martha Eddy Hamlin. She was the fifth of seven children. The family moved to Midland in 1924. Florine was a graduated of Midland High School. After attending Ross Secretarial School, she worked for George Abell for ten years and Glass and Myrick Insurance for twenty years. In 1952, she married Bill "W.O." Vessel. He preceded her in death in March, 1987. She enjoyed a Christian life and lived faithfully as a true and dedicated Christian. Florine loved her many nieces and nephews and enjoyed making salt water taffy, divinity and other sweets to share with them. She loved her garden and canning black-eyed peas which were the mainstay of her family traditions. Florine loved to entertain her relatives who came to visit often. She liked to ride the many horses her husband and daughter traded for so often and thought they were terrible to keep trading the horses she had grown attached to. Later in life, Florine enjoyed fishing, cooking, and going to their lake house at Colorado City Lake. She had a fondness for Parakeets and Siamese Cats. Florine collected miniature cats, which were allover her home.

Florine was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, H. "Bud", John, R.D., Clyde and Harry; and sisters, Lily and Marie.

The printed poem, "Your Face Speaks" was written by Mark Mercer who dedicated it to Florine for her spirit and kindheartedness in thinking of helping others after Bill died. She lived a life that anyone would be proud of and that her family looked up to.

    You don't have to tell
    How you live each day
    You don't have to say
If you work or you play
    A tried true barometer
    Serves in its place
    However you live it
    Will show in your face.
    The false, the deceit
That you bear in your heart
    Will not stay inside
Where it first got its start
    For sinew and blood
Are a thin veil of lace
What you bear in your heart
    You wear in your face.
    If you life is unselfish
    If for others you live
    For not what you get
But how much you can give
If you live close to God
    In His infinite grace
You don't have to show it,
    It shows in your face.

Thank you for being there for us so many times. What would our family be without you and all of the West Kentucky members that have shown what being a Christian is all about. Thank you to West Side Church of Christ members where Florine worshipped and loved so many of her brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church members, St. Paul's Angelican Church, and First Baptist Church for keeping the faith with our family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
