Obituary:

BUNKER HILL - Luther M. Simmons, 73, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 1991, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

He was employed as a heater at Laclede Steel Co. in Alton for 28 years and retired in 1980.

Born Oct. 24, 1918, in Zelma, Mo., he was a son of the late Bill and Nellie (Smith) Simmons.

On Feb. 2, 1954, in Kennett, Mo., he married the former Faye Gattis, and she survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Steve Simmons of Bethalto, Don and Terry Stahl, both of Bunker Hill; four daughters, Barb Boyer and Nellie Garner, both of Bethalto, Betty Broadway of Austell, Ga., and Norma Jean Hattan of California; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, David and Bill Simmons, both of Marble Hill, Mo., Charlie Simmons of East Alton, and Louie Simmons of Texas; and three sisters, Ruth Dowd and Charlene Seitze of Glen Allen, Mo., and Orangie Todd of Nimmons, Ark.

Two borthers, Richard and Lucas Simmons; and two sisters, Lena Atchison and Hellia James, preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Kenneth Martin will officiate.

Burial is in Bunker Hill Cemetery.
