    MINDEN - Mrs. Minnie Adell Roberson, 83, died Friday morning at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.

    She was a lifelong resident of Cotton Valley and a member of the Cotton Valley First Baptist Church.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Cotton Valley First Baptist Church. The Rev. U. H. Hunter and the Rev. Robert E. Carter will officiate. Burial will be in the Cotton Valley Cemetery under the direction of the Green-Kleinegger Funeral Home.

    Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Emma Koy of Cotton Valley and one sister, Mrs. Nina Rigdon of Cotton Valley.

    Civil War Veteran
    Dies in 90th Year

    John W. Smith, one of the oldest citizens of the parish and a veteran of the Civil War, of which he was a courageous Confederate soldier for four years, died on November 28. For many years he has been a resident of Cotton Valley where he was held in high esteem by the citizens. He was born near Macon, Georgia in February 1832, but at the early age of 13, migrated to Louisiana in 1845. Later he settled at Cotton Valley where he died on last Monday. He is survived by a devoted wife, and four children who are heart broken over their loss.
