    Funeral services for the Rev. Ernest Deutsch were held in the Caldwell Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, with the Rev. Milton Bierschwale, pastor of the church, and Dr. Jack Lancaster of Houston officiating.

    The retired pastor, who had endeared himself in the hearts of people throughout the state through his impressive work in the ministry, passed away in a Houston hospital at 6:45 a.m. Monday, May 31, after an extended illness. He had reached the age of 58 years, six months and four days.

    Born in Caldwell November 27, 1906, he was the son of Fred A. and Mary Ann Krenek Deutsch, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Caldwell High School, attended the University of Texas and the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin. He was ordained a Presbyterian minster in Eagle Lake in 1932.

    Congregations served by the Rev. Mr. Deutsch included Bay City, 18 years; The Presbyterian Church Synod of Texas as evangelist for two years; John Knox Presbyterian Church in Dallas for two years; and the Mission, Texas Presbyterian Church for 11 years. He retired from the ministry six months ago because of ill health and returned from Mission to make his home in Caldwell with his wife, the former Miss Lydia Sebesta, with whom he was united in marriage in Caldwell on January 4, 1926.

    When the Caldwell Presbyterian Church was dedicated on January 16, 1955, he conducted the dedication service, and he served as guest speaker in the pulpit of his home church on many other occasions when he and Mrs. Deutsch visited with their numerous relatives in this area.

    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ernest (Lydia) Deutsch of Caldwell; two sons, Robert and Royce Deutsch, both of Houston; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Jean) Holcombe of Bay City; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Alvina Blum of Caldwell and Mrs. Earl Groves of Corpus Christi; three brothers, Fred and Alvin Deutsch, both of Caldwell and Franklin Deutsch of Galveston.

    Elders of the Presbyterian Church in Mission who served as pallbearers were Bob Howell, Roscoe Watkins, Weaks Martin, W. H. Johnson, L. r. Beuscher, Ira Bird, B. J. Brewer and Jasper Redmond.

    A host of friends and relatives from throughout the state were among those attending the funeral rites. Interment was in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Phillips and Luckey funeral directors.
