    Graveside services for Henry Augustus Pace, Jr. will be held in Rosewood Park at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, with Rader Funeral Home of Longview in charge of arrangements. Bob Burke will officiate. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today, June 19, at the funeral home. Mr. Pace died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at a local hospital.

    A member of pioneer East Texas families, he was born March 8, 1925, the only son of Henry A. and Bessie Lee Lowery Pace, in Houston. He attended Houston and Longview schools 1931-1942, and also attended Kilgore College. On June 1, 1942, he began work for Texas & Pacific Railroad. In July 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Navy and served with the Seabees in Hawaii during World War II. After being discharged in March 1946, he returned to Longview and resumed work with the railroad as a ticket agent.

    On Feb. 2, 1948, he married Jeanne Sweete Spence of Longview at First Christian Church. He served on the boards of several churches and on the board of the T&P Federal Credit Union. He was local chairman of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks for more than 10 years. After 44 years of service with the TP-MOP-UP Railroad, he retired on May 30, 1986.

    Mr. Pace was preceded in death by his parents and one son, James Henry Pace.

    He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanne Pace of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathie Jeanne and David Sims, Jr. of Longview; and three sons and four daughters-in-law, John David and Gayla Pace of Lake Cherokee, Robert Gordon and Sandra Pace of Regina, Saskatchewan, Teresa Pace of Hallsville and Richard William and Sheena Pace of Longview. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Jeromy Daniel and Melissa Sims of Mansfield; Jeffery Scott and Kristina Sims of Longview, Brandi Michelle Pace of Longview, Jamie Lynn and Clay Heichelheim of Longview, Justin Ryan Pace of Palestine, Philip Bryan Pace of Hallsville, Jason Aaron and Kelli Michelle Pace of Longview, Alexandra Morgan "Lexi" Pace of Regina, Saskatchewan and Tony Sabo of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; five great-grandchildren, Jaden Daniel and Jaron David Sims of Mansifled, Jace Riley and Olivia Grace Heichelheim of Longview and Macen Ryan Pace of Jewett; and cousin Sharon Pickett of Longview.

    He is also survived by two cats, Spook and Leo, and a host of birds and squirrels.

    Pallbearers will be Jeromey and Jeff Sims, Justin and Philip Pace, Jason Pace and Clay Heichelheim. Honorary pallbearer is Tony Sabo.

    Mr. Pace was a member of the Northside Church and had recently attended Alphine Church of Christ.

    Memorials may be made to Gregg County Animal Shelter or a church of charity of choice.
