    Shirley Ina Nix Vickers, 95, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, January 5, 2015, at the Calvary Baptist Church , 500 E. Miller St, Seymour, Texas.

    Shirley was born in Red Springs, Texas, Baylor County, on September 17, 1919, to Timothy "Tim" and Maudie (Brothers) Nix. She grew up in Baylor County, moving from Red Springs to a farm southwest of Seymour at an early age. She attended Mary's Creek School and Seymour High School. Shirley married Addison Scott "Bud" Vickers, Jr. on July 15, 1937. She and Bud farmed until 1959, moving into Seymour that year. In 1967, Bud became the superintendent of the Seymour Park and Swimming Pool. They really enjoyed working at the swimming pool, talking, visiting and getting to know the children of Seymour who frequented the pool. Bud retired in 1978. Shirley then worked at the Seymour Hospital from 1978 to 1984, leaving in 1984 to care for Bud when he became ill. Shirley was a member of the Seymour Hospital Auxiliary an had over 1500 hours working as a volunteer. She was a long time member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

    Shirley was a very precious, kind, gentle, loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was the foundation and strength, the "rock" for her family. She was strong in her Christian faith. She had lots of hardships in her life, and never complained about any difficulties in her life, always making the best of difficult situations.

    Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, "Bud"; her parents, "Tim" and Maudie Nix; her son, Melvin Vickers, her daughter-in-law, Janis Vickers; sons-in-law, Jim Tom Hicks and Ken Hammond; two brothers, Hubbard Nix and Robert Nix, and one sisters, Alma Brown.

    She is survived by one son, Glenn "Bud" Vickers and wife, Jennifer of Seymour; three daughters, Helen Hammond of Bowie, Gayle Smith and husband, Tilden of Moore, Oklahoma, and Linda Davis and husband, Jerry of Wichita Falls; she is also survived by grandchildren, Nancy Hicks, Paul Hicks, and Jim Hicks and wife, Cindy all of Bowie; Bill Hicks and wife, April of Houston; Keith Vickers and wife, Donna of Decatur, Jason Vickers and wife, Jenn of Roanoke, Chrystal Doherty and husband, Brian, and Cheryll Jones and husband, Wes of Moore, Oklahoma; Taryn Vickers, Darren Davis, Larry Davis and Cindy DeBord, all of Wichita Falls; Cassie Cook and husband, James of Vernon; Kim Rollins and husband, John of Branson, Missouri; 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, many friends and special friends and caregivers, Ingrid Davis, Penny Poncha, Veleta Gamblin, Ann Keep, Blanca Brezina, Carmen Duran, Taryn Vickers, Stephanie Warton and Cindy DeBord.

    A special thanks to all the caregivers for their love, care and companionship. A special thanks to Outreach Home Health Services and New Life Home Health. Also a special thanks to Dr. Tiffany Skaggs, Dr. Robert Parkey, and Wichita Falls Hospice, and the nurses at United Regional Hospital.

    Timothy Roy Nix was born on September 24, 1891 in Erath County, Texas. He came to this county in 1914, and has lived for the most of the time since then on the farm of Mrs. Joe Macha, in Cache Creek community.

    On Dec. 19th, Mr. Nix became ill and was taken to the Baylor County Hospital. He died there at 9 o'clock that night.

    Funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ on Dec. 12th, at 3:00p.m. Minister W.E. Burkham was in charge of the services. Interment was in the original Seymour cemetery, with arrangements in charge of the Harrison Funeral Home. Nephews of the deceased were pallbearers. Also assisting with the services was Minister Douglas Cox of Red Springs.

    Mr. Nix is survived by his wife; by a son at home, Hubbard Leroy Nix; a son in the armed forces in Germany, Robert Nix; two daughters, Mrs. J.E. Brown and Mrs. Bud Vickers of Seymour; and six grandchildren.

    Mr. Nix united with the Church of Christ in early life, and has always lived a good and consistent Christian life. He has been a good citizen, neighbor and friend, and has tried to be useful during the span of years God game him in this world. The bereaved family has the sincere sympathy of the community in the sudden loss of their loved one.

    SEYMOUR (RNS) - Maudie I. Nix, 80, of Seymour died at 11:40 p.m. Friday at Seymour Hospital. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Seymour Church of Christ.

    David Cox, church minister, and Charles Boren of Munday will officiate. Burial will be at the Old Seymour Cemetery, directed by Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.

    Born April 13, 1897, in McClellan County, she came to Seymour with her family in 1906. She married Timothy Roy Nix on June 3, 1917, at Bomarton. Mr. Nix died in 1951. Mrs. Nix was a member of Seymour Church of Christ.

    Mrs. Maudie I. Nix, 80, died Friday in the Seymour Hospital.

    Born April 13, 1897 in McClellan County, Texas, Mrs. Nix was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ. She married Timothy Roy Nix June 3, 1917 in Bomarton, Texas. He died in 1955. Mrs. Nix came to Baylor County in 1906.

    Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Church of Christ of Seymour with David Cox, pastor, and Charles Boren, pastor of the Church of Christ of Munday, Texas, officiating. Burial was in Seymour Cemetery.

    Survivors include two sons, Robert Nix of Munday and Hubbard Nix of Seymour; two daughters, Shirley Vickers and Alma Brown, both of Seymour; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
