- Obituary:
Freddie Cox, 78, of L Street, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Land officiating.
There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place.
Services are entrusted to West Funeral Home.
Freddie Mac "Fred" Cox was born to James B."Jack" and Viola Harrison Cox in Carlsbad, NM on March 16, 1934. He was raised and educated in Portales, Clovis, Dora and Carlsbad before serving in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955. He and Judy Ann Fuson were married on June 9, 1956 in Carlsbad.
Fred was a self employed business man for many years and lived in a number of places throughout New Mexico, Arizona and California before returning to Carlsbad in the 1970's where he owned and operated Carlsbad Saworks and P.I.P. for many years. He then worked for Tri-State as a truck driver prior to his retirement.
Fred's favorite pastimes were reading, teasing others and spending time with his family. He was a past member of Carlsbad Rotary and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and an active member of First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Hurst and brother J.B. Cox.
Fred is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters: Peggy Hotter and Carol Cox both of Carlsbad and Sherry Deguair of Mt. View, Hawaii; sister Maxie Pate of Safford, AZ, four grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
