  Obituary: LUBBOCK - Janice Lee Donald Thornton, 85, of Lubbock was born May 28, 1932 in Slaton, Texas and passed on to her journey July 27, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She married the love of her life, James (Mickey) Thornton April 7, 1950. Janice attended Lubbock schools and graduated from Texas Tech and received her teaching degree. She taught school for LISD for many years before she retired. Janice was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; oldest son, Bruce Thornton in 2014; and her parents, Reese and Pauline Donald. She was a lifelong member of Sunset Church of Christ. Janice is survived by her daughter, Patsy Williams and husband Mike; son, Jimmy and wife Debra; daughter-in-law, Janelle all of Lubbock; brother, Robert Donald and wife Virginia of Lompoc, CA; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Donations may be made to your favorite charity. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home. A celebration of Janice's life will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Sanders with burial to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
