Notes - Obituary:
Curtis Lloyd Vandiver, 83, of Amarillo died Friday, May 23, 2003.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with Terri Sparks, chaplain, officiating.
Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Vandiver served as a technical sergeant with the 234th Army Air Force Base Unit. His unit was awarded the Eame Ribbon with a bronze star for their overseas campaign in Northern France.
He owned and operated Lone Star Auto Radio Repair Service from 1965 to 1995. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1475.
He will be fondly remembered for his compassion and kindness to friends and strangers, his unsurpassed popcorn-making abilities and especially his use of household-cleaning ingredients as everyday remedies for aches and pains.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Renfroe Vandiver, on May 1, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Vikki Vandiver of Portland; a stepdaughter, Barbara Gwin of Houston; a sister-in-law, Edith Burnam of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Terry Marquez of Houston and Sean Gwin of Sachse; four great-grandchildren, Josh Gwin, Rosa Gwin, Stephanie Gwin and Robert Gwin; two nieces, Jody Wilhite of Amarillo and Jackie Cooper of Santa Fe, N.M.; and an entire neighborhood of friends turned family.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176.
