- Obituary:
JOHNSON, THOMAS J., age 78, of Birmingham, AL, died Thursday, June 16, 2005.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1951 in Germany and Japan, then Stateside during the Korean War. Thomas worked in structural sheet metal for 43 years. His specialty was detailed layout and development on large projects, including designing parts and tools. Employed at Hayes Aircraft 1952-1959. Retired from Steward Machine Co. 1991. A skilled carpenter and mechanic, Thomas enjoyed fine woodworking and restoring cars for himself, family and friends. His wit and tender heart made him special and he will be in our hearts forever.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Norwood Dialysis Clinic, Hospice Services of Alabama, and niece, Rita Little for taking such good care of him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Russell and James H. Johnson, and four brothers, Houston, Howard, Hayes, and Vincent.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris, his daughter Paula, brother J.P. Johnson, and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 17, 5-8p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville with the service following on Saturday, June 18, 2 p.m., Robert Collins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Services of Alabama, 2367 Lakeside Drive, Suite B1, Birmingham, AL 35244, is appreciated.
