    • Obituary:

      Captain Earl J. Devall, Sr., age 79, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011, at a local hospital.

      He was born December 31, 1931, to Hyman and Lucille Benoit Devall in Big Lake and lived the majority of his life in Lake Charles. Proudly, he retired as a tug boat captain. Following that, he and his wife enjoyed travelling in their rv, cleaning and polishing it every chance he got. Mr. Devall was a true Christian man having belonged many years to the Grand Lake Faith Temple, often referring to them as his "family". A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Preceding him in death was is parents, his daughter, Sharon Lucille Devall, and his siblings, Calvin Devall, Dozie Poole, and Della Vidrine.

      Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Joyce Ardoin Devall of Lake Charles; three sons, Earl Devall, Jr. and wife, Pat of Lake Charles, James Israel and wife, Sheila of Moss Bluff, and Randall Israel of Lake Charles; two daughters, Cammie Edmonds and husband, Keith of Lake Charles and Shelva Reed and husband, Jimmie of Lake Charles; a brother-in-law, Carl Ardoin and wife, Sylvia of Lake Charles; a sister-in-law, Gloria Gossett of Lake Charles; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, JoJo.

      His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at Johnson Funeral Home. Brother Andrew Martin will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 24, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, January 25, from 8 a.m. until time of services. A prayer service will be held Monday evening at 6 p.m. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Brother Martin for his undying love, friendship, and support he has given to Earl and his family as well as to the church family for their unending prayers, love, and support. They would also like extend their gratitude to the staff at Landmark for their care give to Earl during his illness.
