    • Obituary:

      George Jackson, 64, of Juneau, Alaska, passed away Oct. 15, 2006, in his home following a battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Flagstaff, Ariz., to Marie Smouse and Clarence Jackson.

      He worked as a surveyor in California before moving to Alaska. His career with the state of Alaska's Department of Transportation lasted 23 years. In Dec. 2005, he retired as a permits officer. George and Micki Strohmeyer were married in 1999.

      George loved Alaska, and loved to hike, fish and camp. He was a history buff, amateur astronomer, big tease, an art collector and a lathe woodworker.

      He was preceded in death by his father, and a sister, Bertie Lou Brack.

      He is survived by his wife, Mary "Micki" Jackson of Juneau; mother, Marie Jackson of Farmington; brother, Perry (Sue) of Goodyear, Ariz.; sisters, Carol Wolf, Mary Wethington (Jack), and Nancy Crawford (Mark), all of Farmington; son, David Jackson of Texas; daughter, Diana Plunk (Tom) of Texas; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and longtime friends.

      A celebration of life will was held Nov. 4, in Douglas Island, Alaska.
