    • Obituary:

On February 13, 2017 Jerry B. Thomas of Sugar Land, Texas left his earthly body to enter a much better place that our Lord had prepared for him. Born September 22, 1932 in Ranger, Texas he grew up in Cuero, Texas graduating from high school there in 1950. He then joined the United States Navy at the age of 19 and began traveling parts of the world he never thought possible. After completing his tour of service he rejoined the Naval Reserves and continued to serve his country until his retirement as a chief petty officer in 1978. He also joined the U.S. Post Office in 1955, retiring from there in 1988. From childhood his true passion in life was reading and his library was made up almost entirely of books on two subjects. That being the National Zoos of the World and their animals and that is what kept his love of reading alive for so many years. His knowledge of wild animals was perhaps second to that of only Noah, at least that is what his friends and family thought.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Ann Thomas, his parents, V. Bailey Thomas and Dorothy B. Thomas and his sister Margaret Halverson. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Bush of Tulsa, Oklahoma, his 3 sons: Kenny Thomas and his wife Jackie of Orange Beach, Alabama, Michael Thomas and his wife Karen of Sugar Land, Texas, and Mark Thomas and his wife Marianne of Martin, Georgia, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Brookdale First Colony as well as his many doctors and nurses who cared for him during his difficult time at the end.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask for donations to be made to the Houston Zoo.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. A graveside service and interment will take place at 3:00 pm at Confederate Cemetery, Alvin, Texas.
