Francis "Poochie" Frederick Jr.
Francis "Poochie" Frederick Jr., 77, a native of Kaplan and a resident of Houma, died at 7:14 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2001.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Samart Funeral Home in Houma and from 11 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Kavech Frederick of Houma; one son, James "Jimmy" Frederick of Houma; four daughters, Kitty Maronge, Judy F. Trahan and Cyndi Frederick, all of Houma, and Jeane Fox of Lafayette; one sister, Evalise Frederick of Sulphur; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, F.A Frederick Sr. and Elmire LeBlanc Frederick; three brothers, Weston, Preston and Victor Frederick; two sisters, Una Romero and Jelis Trahan; and one grandson, Billy Frederick Trahan.
He was an employee of Halliburton, the vice-president of Tool Masters, Inc., a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, the grand commander of Order of Alhambra (Terragon Caravan No. 245), the past commander of Bayou Chapter No. 9 of Disabled American Veterans, a sergeant-at-arms of the United Veterans League No. 1, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7755 in Bourg and a member of the American legion Post No. 272 in Montegut.
He was a past president of the Houma and Thibodaux Council of St. Vincent de Paul, a past president of the St. Bernadette Church St. Vincent de Paul Society, a Eucharistic minister for the hospital and sick, a deputy grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7355, a fourth degree member of Fr. August Vandebilt, and an altar sever, usher and parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. He made 14 Manresa retreats and completed Cursillo in Christian Living at Prairie Rhonde No. 211 in 1987. He was a recipient of the Bishop's Medal in 1992 from Bishop Boudreaux.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any charity.
