Bruce Lamar White, Sr.
1914 - 2005
Bruce Lamar White, Sr., 91, of Santee, Calif., died on November 26, 2005, after a brief stay at San Diego Hospice. Bruce was born in Ysletta Tex., where his father was stationed while serving as a Texas Ranger, on May 13, 1914, to Dudley, Sr. and Rosa (Patton) White. Bruce's ancestors came to Texas in 1823 to help settle it, and in 1836 fought for Texas Independence. He was proud of his heritage and that there were five generations of Texas Rangers, and his grandfather, Emmett White, was Mayor of Austin and Sheriff of Travis County. Bruce grew up in Austin, Tex., and served his country in the US Army during WW II. He moved to Southern California in 1943 after discharge from the Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Dudley White, Jr. a Texas Ranger, and his sister, Margaret White Grunewald.
In 1933 he married Lena Fuchs, and they had two sons, Bruce Lamar White, Jr. and James M. White, owner of the Broken Spoke. He married Lula LeBlanc on May 6, 1943, from Highlands, Tex., and they had one daughter, Cynthia Ann White. Bruce was a hard worker his whole life, retiring when he was 75, although he remained on call as a maintenance engineer for another five years. He loved to show Pinto horses all over the United States, and rode in the Tournament of Roses Parade for 20 years, riding in his fabulous silver saddle made by Hollywood Saddlery, wearing beautiful sequined costumes some made by the famous suit maker to the stars "Nudie". He rode in parades and horse shows countrywide and was an accomplished horseman training many Pinto Champions. He had 'the most amazing smile and entertaining laugh, and you never saw him without it. He enjoyed life to the fullest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lula; his two sons, Bruce, Jr. and wife, Janice, and James and his wife, Annetta, all of Austin, Tex.; and one daughter, Cynthia Ann White McCool and her husband, Lance Gilbert of Montara, Calif.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and thousands of friends.
