- Obituary:
Marlin Roberts
October 14, 1950 - January 28, 2021
Marlin Keith "O'Pa" Roberts, 70, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, fought a courageous 20 month battle against Glioblastoma Multiforme, the most aggressive form of brain cancer.
On January 28, 2021, Marlin joined his parents, Samuel and Edwina Sonnier Roberts; his sister and brother in law, Delores and Robert Young; his brother, Reginald Roberts; and his parents in law, Guy and Olga Hymel in Heaven.
Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Marlin spent his boy to young adulthood in Moss Bluff, Louisiana. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force. After training, he was stationed at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. There Marlin was involved in several top secret research projects.
In 1977, Marlin graduated from Southwest Louisiana with a Bachelor Degree in Geology. His career as an exploration geologist for several Lafayette, Louisiana companies, gradually led to his working as an independent geologist. He continued his work exploring the South Louisiana region for many years. After living in Lafayette for most of his career, he retired to Hot Springs in 2017. It was a dream of Marlin's, who loved camping, hiking, canoeing, and the beauty of all God's creation, to live on a lake. He considered being so near the water on Lake Hamilton a blessing.
Marlin was a kind and gentle man, always ready to help others. He will be missed by so many, but especially by his wife of 32 years, Sharon Roberts; his brothers Melvin (Tammy) and Lannie (Devita) Roberts; his bonus sons Chad (Jeanne) and Michael Wright (Stacy Courville); and his grandchildren, who brought him so much joy and happiness- Chase, Allie, Bailey and Amy Wright.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ali Krisht and his medical team, Dr. Jamie Burton and her staff, Arkansas Hospice, Dr. Hunter Carrington, and the wonderful neighbors they have in Light House Cove.
