Father of G. O. Houston Succumbs at Age of 84--Funeral Is Held Thursday

SAREPTA, La., March 5 - Lazarus L. Houston, 84 years old, pioneer resident of this section and the head of a large and prominent North Louisiana family, died at his home near here at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday night. Mr. Houston had been ill for several weeks. He is the father of G. O. Houston, assistant superintendent of Caddo parish schools.

Funeral services were held here at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the family residence.

Mrs. Houston was born near Macon, Ga., May 2, 1847, the son of Samuel T. and Esther Martin Houston. He was the sixth of a family of 13 children. There his mother gave the name of Sapreta to the town that sprang up near their home. Mr. Houston remained until his death on the Houston homestead that for many years has been the scene of many reunions of his descendants and relatives. It was on this farm that he and his wife reared a large family, 16 children being born to them, 10 of whom still survive.

Mr. Houston was a devout member of the Baptist church and was respected and loved throughout the section.

Mr. Houston was married March 16, 1871, to Miss Fannie Viola Campbell, who survives him.
