    • Obituary:

      Ira R. Johnston

      Johnston, Ira R. 93, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009. Boots was a WWII Veteran who flew bombers and cargo airplanes on the Crescent Caravan to Africa and Europe. After the war he flew for various airlines. He was Chief Pilot for PIA in Peru for two years. In 1950, he became the Corporate Pilot for Lario Oil and Gas Co. in Wichita until retiring in 1978. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Thelma, and two brothers. Boots is survived by son, Jerry and daughter-in-law, Connie; grandchildren, Tracy, Patrick, Karyn, Mark; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; niece, Trellis Leonard. Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 6770 E. 34th St. N. Memorials: Alzheimer's Assoc. or Risen Savior Lutheran Church.
