Notes - Obituary:
R.L. (Johnny) Johnston, 85, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, entered into rest Monday, May 12, 2003. He was born February 03, 1918 in North Zulch, Texas; moving to Arizona in 1955 from Kansas. Johnny retired as a rural mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service and was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was also president of the Arizona and Western States Rural Carrier Association and enjoyed coaching Mesa Southern Little League from 1956-1973. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen G. Johnston, daughters, Trudy Kay Phelps of Pine, AZ and Nancy Hoffman of Castle Rock, CO; son, John Robert Johnston DDS of Prescott, AZ. Mr. Johnston is also survived by his brother, Ira (Boots) Johnston of Sun Lakes, AZ, along with 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church of Sun Lakes, 9535 E. Riggs Rd., Thursday, May 22 at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1445 E. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85006. Arrangements were entrusted to Valley of the Sun Mortuary, Chandler, Arizona.
