ELMER (Tiny) HOYT
July 31, 1926 - August 18, 2016
Elmer (Tiny) Franklin Hoyt 1926-2016 Elmer Franklin Hoyt, 90 passed away at home Thursday, August 18, 2016 in East Bernard, Texas. Born July 31, 1926 in Houston, Mr. Hoyt is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elma Hoyt; three brothers, Clifford, Richard and George Hoyt; two sisters, Ellen Darnelle and Laura Ann Hoyt. Elmer leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Dora Lee; sons, Frank Hoyt, Rick Hoyt and wife, Karey; Grandchildren, April Werner and husband, Brian; Stacie Reitz and husband, Jason; Austin Hoyt and wife, Amy; Robert Hoyt and wife, Meagan, and Mason Hoyt; great grandchildren, Landon, Ellie and Eli Hoyt, Charlie Werner, Preston and Zachary Reitz. Elmer was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who loved jokes and shared his wonderful sense of humor with many. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at Warren 56 Lodge, and a Ben Hur Shriner. Known to his many close friends as "Tiny", Mr. Hoyt loved saltwater fishing and provided many wonderful meals from his backyard grill. Elmer joined the United States Coast Guard at the age of 16 after he tricked the Coast Guard into thinking he was older, as he wanted to serve his country so much. And then, Elmer went on to serve honorably during WWII in 1943-44. Afterward, He became a proud member of the American Legion Post 0451. Elmer was baptized and saved at the White Oak Baptist Church in Houston and he loved to sing and dance to Big Band music. His life's work was as a Master Plumber and he was known to be quite good as a mechanic. Elmer (Tiny) Franklin Hoyt will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him. Services include a visitation from six o'clock to nine o'clock in the evening at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 22, 2016. The funeral service will be at ten o'clock in the morning Tuesday, August 23, 2016 also at Woodlawn. Reverend Gene Vickery will conduct the service. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service include: Mason, Austin and Robert Hoyt, Brian Werner, Jason Reitz and Justin Brown.
