Dalton Lane Jones
Dalton Lane Jones, 62, of Austin, Texas, died July 9, 2002, after a courageous six-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
He was born on April 3, 1940, in Rosebud, Texas, to Ward and Gladys Jones. He grew up in Waco, where he was active in Demolay at the state level and participated in Boys State.
He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1962 with a BBA. While at the university, he was a proud member of the Tejas Club.
In 1962, he moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the Secretary of Agriculture as a management intern. While in Washington, he worked toward a master's degree in Urban Planning at George Washington University. He returned to Texas in 1964 to attend law school at Baylor University and graduated in 1967.
He moved with his young family to Clear Lake City and practiced law as a plaintiff's attorney in Harris and Galveston Counties for 28 years. He was a Board Certified Trial Specialist and in his later years he concentrated in toxic tort litigation.
In 1992, he retired to Austin. He purchased Contemporary Products of Texas, Inc., a manufacturer of fiberglass and plastic products for the aerial-lift industry, and in 1997 he relocated the plant to Walburg, Texas.
Dalton loved his family unconditionally, and he took great joy in rearing his children. He will be remembered for his generosity, tenacity, far reaching impact on the lives of others and his endless strength and resolve to live life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ward C. Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Jones; his mother, Gladys M. Jones; his sister and brother-in-law, Paulette and Lloyd Redding; and his children, Kelly and Jerry Capps, Heather and Chris Jones, Austin Jones; and his step-children, Robin Scott and Robert Hall Brady. His precious grandchildren are Katy and Lane Capps, Hays Jones, Allison, Paige and Jack Scott. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Drs. Jayesh Mahta and Seema Sengal of Northwestern University, and Dr. John Doty of the Southwest Regional Cancer Center. They also extend a special thank you to the nurses at the Southwest Regional Cancer Center for their love and support of Dalton.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 N. Lamar.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12th, at Weed-Corley-Fish. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Colleen Bjerke, Lou Chol, Gary Craig, Sandy Fowler, Kenneth Knowles, Mike London, Ken Lucas, Patti Mooney, Lloyd Redding and Jerry Tapley.
Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be made to The Fulmer Fund, c/o S.W. Regional Cancer Center, 711 W. 38th St., Suite B2, Austin, Texas 78705. The Fulmer Fund provides cancer treatment for patients in financial need.
