    • Obituary:

Frank Skrivanek, son of the late Joseph and Anna Mucha Skrivanek, Czech Pioneers of Texas, was born at New Tabor (Novy Tabor) on November 23, 1884. At the time of his death, December 5, 1967, in the Goodnight Memorial Hospital, Caldwell, Texas, he had reached the age of 83 years and 12 days.

Survivors are Joseph J. Skrivanek, Sr., a brother; and Mrs. Frank (Ruzena) Marek, and Mrs. Hynek (Anna) Marek, sisters, all of Caldwell or Burleson County. Another sister, Mrs. John K. Drgac (Stanislava) died in 1961. Two brothers, John and Henry, died in their infancy.

Mr. Skrivanek was baptized and confirmed in the New Tabor Brethren Church. For the past nine years, he attended the Caldwell Brethren Church. He was a member of the Cooks Point Mutual Aid Society of The Unity of The Brethren. Mr. Skrivanek enjoyed excellent health until some nine years ago when he underwent major surgery. After several months of recuperation, he again had good health until about ten days ago when he became seriously ill and was taken to the Goodnight Memorial Hospital, where he died Tuesday morning at 10:10.

Mr. Skrivanek never married. After the death of his father in 1927, he took excellent care of his mother until her death in 1938. For the past three years he made his home with his niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kubelka of Route 4, Caldwell. Prior to that he lived with his sisters, Mrs. Frank Marek, Sr. for 5 years, and Mrs. Hynek Marek for a shorter period of time.

He loved nature, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was described as quiet, kind, and considerate and seldom, if ever, had unkind words for anyone, and was a real individualist.

Funeral services were held in the Caldwell Brethren Church at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, with the Rev. F.J. Kostohryz and the Rev. John J. Bravenec officiating. Mrs. F.J. Kostohryz served as organist and accompanied the congregation as they sang "Skala Veku" in Czech and "Old Rugged Cross" in English.

Interment was in the New Tabor Cemetery with the following nephews serving as pallbearers: Dr. Dan Skrivanek, M.D. of Ennis, Dr. John M. Skrivanek of College Station, Alvin Drgac of Caldwell, Julius A. Skrivanek of College Station, Theodore J. Marek of San Marcos, Frank Marek of Dallas, Wilton J. Marek of Caldwell and Frank J. Skrivanek of Rockdale.
