      APPLETON, Wis. - James F. Bogenschutz, 51, of Appleton, Wis., formerly of White Oak, passed away at home on July 11, 1998, after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer.

      He was born on April 11, 1947, in Appleton to the late Elmer and Margaret Bogenschutz. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Texas 1966-1970. He then began a long career with the U.S. Postal Service, transferring to Wisconsin in August 1987.

      Jim is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Appleton; three daughters and a son-in-law, Jill Meyer of Combined Locks, Wis., Jennifer and Monico Diaz and Jena Bogenschutz, all of Longview; one son, Jared Bogenschutz of Longview; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sylvia Bogenschutz, Tom and Carol Bogenschutz and Gary and Maureen Bogenschutz, all of Henderson; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Danny Hammes of Campbellsport, Wis., Mary and Al King of Neenah, Wis., and Debbie Bogenschutz and her fiance, Joe Unmuth, of Neenah, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

      A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at the First United Methodist Church in Appleton.

      Bogie returned home to his creator on July 11, 1998, after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer. He was born on April 11, 1947, in Appleton to the late Elmer and Margaret (Eisch) Bogenschutz. He graduated from Kimberly High School in 1966, having been quarterback on the football team. He enlisted in the Air Force, serving in Texas from 1966 to 1970. He was also a graduate of the University of Texas, Tyler, with a degree in management and finance. On April 21, 1971, he began a long career with the United States Postal Service, as a letter carrier, and several Postmaster positions in Texas, transferring to Wisconsin in August of 1987 serving as supervisor in Hartland. In December of 1987 he became Postmaster at Clintonville, holding that position until present. On August 28, 1987, he married his high school sweetheart, Joanne (Richmond). They spend 11 wonderful years together traveling, riding motorcycles, golfing, camping, and raising children and grandchildren. Jim was a member of the Appleton Flame-Marriage Encounter International, the Lost Boys Thursday Night Golf League, the Tee-Mates Friday Night Couples Golf League, the Honda Goldwing Roadriders Association, the National Association of Postmasters of the United States (NAPUS), the Monday Night Combined Locks Dart League, and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Appleton. Jim is survived by his wife, Joanne, Appleton; three daughters, Jill Meyer, Combined Locks; Jennifer (Chacho) Diaz, Longview, Texas; Jena Bogenschutz, Longview, Texas; one son, Jared Bogenschutz, Longview, Texas; one stepson, Aric (Nichola) Ostorero, Jamaica; one Swiss daughter (and her family) Barbara Stubi, Berne, Switzerland; one foster son, Sam Xiong, Burnsville, Minn.; two grandchildren, Amber Ostorero, Tigerton, and Avery Meyer, Combined Locks; three brothers, Jerry (Sylvia) Bogenschutz, Henderson, Texas; Tom (Carol) Bogenschutz, Henderson, Texas; Gary (Maureen) Bogenschutz, Henderson, Texas; three sisters, Doris (Donny) Hammes, Campbellsport; Mary (Al) King, Neenah; Debbie Bogenschutz (fiance Joe Unmuth), Neenah; his father-in-law, Karel Richmond, Menasha; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews both in Texas and Wisconsin, in-laws, and friends. His parents, one brother, Robert; one sister, Janice (Jim) Mueller, and a step-son, Lonn Ostorero, preceded him in death. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening.
