Notes - Obituary:
PORTERVILLE, LA - Services for Mr. Porter Cochran, 87, of Portersville were held at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 23, at the Central Baptist Church in Springhill, La., where he was a member and deacon. Dr. Johnny Adkins, assisted by Dr. Newell Pugh, officiated. Burial was in the Springhill Cemetery.
He died Saturday, September 22, 1984, at his residence after a long illness. Mr. Cochran, a native and life long resident of this area, was a major supplier of lumber for the early salt mill industry in Springhill. He worked as a dairyman and poultry farmer in the settlement that came to be called Porterville after him. He was known as (Mr. Porter) to all his friends and acquaintances.
Mr. Cochran is survived by his wife, Gertrude Houston Cochran; two daughters, Maggie Evelyn Wallace and Gertie Ann Twitty, all of Porterville; one son, Melbourne Cochran of Springhill; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Galvin L. Stahl, Louis Stahl, Jerry Voss, Danny Stanford, John Wallace, James Evans and David Twitty.
Honorary Pallbearers were: deacons of Central Baptist Church in Springhill.
