    • Obituary:

Funeral services for US Army Master Sergeant Cyprien Bourque will be conducted on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory, 108 Hardware Road, Broussard, LA. The family will receive visitors beginning at 9 a.m. until time services time.

He was born June 15, 1923, in Rayne, LA to the late Danville and Donatille Broussard Bourque.

Cyprien married his tall and pretty girlfriend, Renola Clement, on January 2, 1949 and they settled in Lawton, OK. On December 28, 1950, a baby girl Jennifer Susan Bourque was born. She was a gift in the middle of winter to the couple.

A lifetime member of the American Legion Post 77 in Rayne, LA. Cyprien was a US Army Veteran who proudly served his country for 20 years, to include serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict. During WWII he served in Europe, Northern Ireland, Invasion of Normandy Omaha Beach, Paris Hurtgen Forest, Ruhr Packet and Central Europe. Cyprien was assigned to the 8th Infantry Division, 28th Field Artillery Battalion, and was part of the 8th Division.

May 9, 1945, Germany surrendered and the units last position and last fire mission was by the Elke River in Shwerin, Germany. The 8th Division returned to the US and was stationed at Fort Leonard, Missouri. The unit's mission was to re-group and ship out to the Pacific which never happened since Japan surrendered and the 8th Infantry Division was then deactivated. He re-enlisted for 3 years and traveled to Rayne on a 90 day re-enlistment leave. He received an assignment to Fort Sill, OK with the 6th Armored Field Artillery Battalion.

In 1951 he received orders for duty in Korea. Upon arrival in Korea he was assigned to the 5th Regimental Combat Team. He served with this unit for 13 months, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Master Sargent Bourque returned to the US, re-assigned to Fort Sill, OK with the Enlisted Staff and Faculty Battery. In October 1959, he received orders to Germany, assigned to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, with the 3rd Rec Squadron in Amberg, Germany. He remained with this unit until he retired from the military. Upon his return home to Rayne, LA, he was hired as a city letter carrier at the U.S. Postal Service until he retired. He continued to stay busy assisting friends that operated automotive shops. He enjoyed his daily McDonald mornings with friends, retirees and occasional trips back and forth to Fort Polk, LA.

Left to cherish Cyprien's memory is his only child, Jennifer Bourque Aiguier Cordova, one grandchild, Bridget Aiguier Foco and husband Jeremy, and one great grandchild, JP Foco, II.

Cyprien Bourque was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Renola Clement Bourque, parents, Louis Dornaville and Donatille Bourque, one brother, Joseph Lester Bourque, and two sisters, Anna Lou B. Sellers, and Margaret B. Black.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana and Joann Harrington for their compassionate care given to Cyprien and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Cyprien's name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
