Notes - Obituary:
Denny Gene Holcombe, passed away at 5:08 a.m. at his home in West Columbia on June 29, 2011.
He was born in Shreveport, LA on April 8, 1928, to Harvey and Sarah Holcombe. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Company, after 36 years. Denny was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church in Sweeny, Texas. He regularly led the men's Bible study class and maintained the audio system at the church. He was a member of The Brazoria County Modelers Association and a veteran of the US Army. He was an avid ham radio operator, enjoyed astronomy, fishing, hunting, electronics, word puzzles, and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marcy Jean Holcombe, four sons, Robert Eugene and wife Trudi (Liz Ophoven); David Ray and wife Julie; Roy Allen; and Frank Harvey and wife Mary (Glen Freake and Danny Pickett), with 8 grandchildren, Brooke, Shawn and wife Sandra, Will and wife Jessica, Kristen, Tricia, Marcy and husband Jake Lamprecht, Brandon, and Cherise; and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of Sweeny, Texas, with Pastor Kenneth James officiating and Pastor Sherry Q. Crenshaw presenting the eulogy.
