    • Obituary:

      Emmitt J. "Buck" Ross Jr., 76, of Victoria passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 2, 2009. He was born Sept. 7, 1932, in College Station, to the late Emmitt and Albina Frances Blazek Ross.

      Emmitt served his country in the U.S. Army. After receiving an honorable discharge he entered college, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M in 1960. He was employed by King Fisher Marine and retired as office manager.

      Emmitt was the neighborhood grandfather and watchdog, jobs which he took very seriously along with keeping his yard beautiful. He was a member of Baptist Temple Church.

      Survivors include his sons, James Douglas Ross of Houston, and Michael Scott Ross and his wife Jill of Victoria; beloved grandson, Mason Connor Ross; sisters, Mickey Gandy of Brownwood, Patsy Sargent of Denison, Helen Kennon of Houston, Sue Flato of Corpus Christi, and Dianne Feldman of College Station; brothers, Robert L. Ross of Anderson and J. D. Ross of East Bernard; and his faithful four-legged companion, Bitzi.

      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 48 years, Norma Jean Sebesta Ross; a daughter, Cheryl Jean Ross; two sisters, Nell Ross Summerlin and Irene Ross Miller.

      Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, the Rev. J. V. Helms officiating.

      Donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust, Victoria, Texas 77901.
