Privat's produce market was owned by Joe Privat and was located on the corner of East Butler and South Adams Avenue, where the SOS convenience store was built later. A church now occupies the corner. The Privat farm was located on Edwin Drive. The man standing at left is the manager, Ed Lancaster. Joseph Privat
RAYNE - Funeral services were held yesterday at 3 p.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church for Joseph Privat, 71, who died in his home after a long illness.
Burial was conducted in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Privat was born in Rayne on November 6, a 1890, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion of Rayne.
Survivors include his wife, the former Julia McBride; one son, Anthony Privat of Rayne; one daughter, Mrs. Edwin L. Ousse of Rayne; one grandson; and one a sister, Mrs. O. U. Landry of Rayne.
The Gossen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Joe Privat, 71 Funeral Services Held In Rayne
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Catholic church, Rayne, for Joseph Privat, 71, who died at his home in Rayne at 6:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Gossen Funeral Home.
Mr. Privat, a prominent Rayne businessman and retired rice farmer, had been ill for several months. He was a member of the Rayne American Legion post and the Rayne Knights of Columbus council. He was born in Rayne Nov. 6, 1890.
Survivors are his widow, the former Julia McBride; a son, Anthony Privat; a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Cusse; one sister, Mrs. O. U. Landry and one grandson, all of Rayne.
