    • Obituary:

Mason Lavelle Ferguson was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, on May 11, 1926, and peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord in Shreveport, Louisiana, on August 19, 2020. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Willadene "Dene" Thompson Ferguson, his second wife Gertianne Twitty Ferguson, and his brothers, Carlton, Charles (Pete), and Leo (Bo). He is survived by his sons, The Rev. Steve Ferguson (Sandy, deceased) of Tomball, Texas, David Ferguson (Kathy) of Rison, Arkansas, sister, Chlora Jean Colley (Robert) of Springhill, Louisiana, grandchildren Christopher Ferguson (Carrie) of West Monroe, Louisiana, Craig Ferguson (Jennifer) and Catherine Bird (Travis) of Cedar Park, Texas, Jessica Ferguson (Wes) of Denver, Colorado, and Mason Ferguson of Conway, Arkansas, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved deeply.

Lavelle also held deep affection for peanut butter. He had a saying that if you love peanut butter and something else, when you put them together, you get something "doubly good." With an infectious laugh that never failed to make others smile, Lavelle was a true joy to those who knew him. He had a wicked sense of humor and earned a well-deserved reputation as an entertaining prankster.

Lavelle, or "Mason" as he was known later in life, loved his country, having served in the US Army Air Corps as a B-17 turret gunner during WWII. In recent years, he was recognized for his service to our country, along with other WWII veterans as part of an Honor Flight to visit Washington, D.C. and the WWII Memorial. After his retirement as an accountant for Arkla, Inc., he and Dene traveled extensively, literally wearing out four motor homes as they criss-crossed the US and Canada. There was hardly a place you could mention that Lavelle wouldn't be able to say, "I've been there." Along the way, he held the position of National Director of the Family Motor Coach Association. In addition, he was a member of the Aneca Federal Credit Union's Board of Directors for several years in Shreveport, LA.

Nothing was more important to Lavelle than his faith and family. He taught for many years as a Sunday School teacher and served as a deacon at Sunset Acres Church in Shreveport, LA. In recent years, he attended Brookwood Baptist Church and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. We can all picture the people in Heaven that are now telling Lavelle that his faith and Christian example are the reasons they are there. Lavelle had a friend in Jesus and truly walked his life in love.

We welcome friends and family to join us for a graveside service on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 11:00 am at Forest Park West Cemetery (masks are encouraged), with Rev. Gary Melanson and Rev. John Harp officiating. Please note a special celebration of Lavelle's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brookwood Baptist Church or to your preferred charity.
