Lanny Ray Burkhalter, beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend, embarked upon his journey with the Lord on April 27, 2016, after a short and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born May 21, 1941, in College Station, Texas, Lanny is survived by his three sons, Craig Burkhalter and his wife Sarah; Chris Burkhalter and his wife Kristi; and, Cory Burkhalter and his wife Jackie; as well as 12 grandchildren, and his partner of 24 years, Dan Dyer. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie D. Burkhalter and mother, Clara E. Burkhalter; brothers, Willie D. Burkhalter, Jr., and Billy Burkhalter; sister, Ruth Burkhalter Slama Grumbles.

A 1959 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, Texas, Lanny attended Sam Houston State Teachers College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in advertising in 1964. Lanny moved to Houston upon graduating from college and worked for TRW for several years before becoming an executive with Synercom Technology, Inc., through the 70s and early 80s. Lanny transitioned into the oil and gas industry in the mid 80s, excelling as a facilities director at Huffco, VICO, and Apache Corp. all based in the nation's fourth largest city. Known for his proclivity in the garden, Lanny enjoyed his flowers and his vegetables during his retirement, as well as taking his beloved dog, Sam, on daily excursions around the neighborhood.

A celebration of Lanny's life will begin on Sunday, May 1, with an open visitation from 6 to 8 pm at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, TX 77065. His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, at the funeral home administered by Pastor David Welch of Bear Creek Baptist Church. Lanny's interment will be 2 pm Monday at the Wellborn Cemetery in his hometown of College Station.
