Charles H. Landry
February 27, 1940 - December 30, 2011
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Charles H. Landry, 71, who passed away on Friday, December 30, 2011 in Lafayette.
Entombment will be in St. John's Mausoleum.
Reverend Richard Vidrine, CHC, USNR, Pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in Grand Prairie, LA, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Mr. Landry's children and grandchildren. Lectors will be Judy Poteet and Diane LaFlamme and the Eulogist will be Greg Poteet. Melody Thibodaux, soloist, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist, will sing "Eternal Father", "Psalm 23", "Pie Jesu" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic" for the services. The "Ave Maria" will be played on the viola by Timothy Gaffga.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 41 years, Linda Bertrand Landry of Lafayette; two daughters, Lisa Landry Mayeux and her husband Vaughn Ethan Mayeux of Lafayette and Ann Marie Landry Gaffga and her husband Dr. Christopher Moore Gaffga of Lafayette; and five grandchildren, Zachary and Elizabeth Mayeux and Adele, Elise and Edith Gaffga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Pierre Landry, Sr. and Wilna Anastasia Thibodaux Landry; and one brother, Sidney P. Landry, Jr.
A native of Bunkie and a resident of Lafayette, Charles Landry graduated from Cathedral Carmel High School in 1958 and USL (now ULL) in 1966. He retired from the United States Navy after proudly serving his country for 21 years. He was an insuror and real estate broker and was a member of the Lafayette Parish Insurance Exchange for many years. Charles was the most giving person, very genuine and bigger than life. He truly loved his fellow man and country. Charles will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Mayeux, Christopher Gaffga, Timothy Gaffga, Scott Landry, Sidney P. Landry, III and Robert Riehl.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of his Friday Lunch Gang, Greg Poteet, Dr. M. Patel, Jim Reeves, Jim Ardoin, Richard D'aquin and John Daigle.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
A Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed Monday at 3:00 PM and a Rosary will be prayed on Monday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Landry's name to St. Michael's Shelter for Homeless Veterans.
