S.A. 'Booty' Bourgeois
Mr. S.A. "Booty" Bourgeois died Thursday afternoon at a local hospital after an extended illness. He was 81 years old. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Orange, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Mr. Bourgeois is survived by JoAnn, his wife of 58 years. He is also survived by sisters, Nora Lee Sanders and Jeannete Calhoun; six nieces; and six nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, S.A. Bourgeois Sr. and Virginia Miller Bourgeois; a sister, Vivian Carr; and a brother, Herman Bourgeois.
He was born in Orange, Texas, on October 25, 1927, and graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange in 1945. Shortly after graduation, he volunteered for the U.S. Army and served 18 months during World War II. In 1948, he went to work for the Texas Highway Department and was involved with the construction of highways and bridges in the Southeast Texas area. In 1950, he was employed at the DuPont Chemical Co. in Orange. He retired as mechanical foreman in 1985 with 35 years of service.
He was a former member of the Orange Lions Club and the Orange Boating Club. He was an avid golfer and a true Texas Longhorn fan through good and bad times. He had resided in Longview for the last 14 years.
Pallbearers will be Robert Bourgeois, Steven Sanders, Tom Goodwyn, David Goodwyn, Dick Porter and Reid Caruthers.
Memorials may be made to Saint Mary's Catholic Church of Longview, Saint Mary's Catholic Church of Orange, or the American Lung Association.
