      James Floyd Hoffpauir
      January 11, 1929 - March 9, 2025

James Floyd Hoffpauir, 96, of Winnie, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, March 9, 2025. He was born on January 11, 1929 in Terry, Texas to Douglas Hoffpauir and Zula Clement Hoffpauir.

He was known to many by many different names. To those closest, he was called Dad, Honey, Pop and Pawpaw. To many others, he was called James or Floyd.

He grew up in the Nome and Fannett areas and finally landed in Winnie. He was attending East Chambers High School and dropped out of school during his 10th grade year. His strong work ethic led him to go back to East Chambers High School and attend GED classes and get his diploma while he was in his sixties.

At the age of 17 he joined the Army and proudly served as a Military Police in Japan immediately following WWII. After returning from the war and living in Winnie he met Sarah Lea Hamous. They were married September 15, 1951 and began their family of four boys in 1953.

He and Sarah were dedicated to serving Christ and became members of First Baptist Church Stowell during the early 1950s. They and the four boys were at the church whenever the doors were open. It was also during this time that Sarah's endearing phrase of "Honey" became so well known that even the male church members began to refer to him as Honey. He remained a faithful member after Sarah's death in 2005 and continued being active and attending church until some time in 2023 when mobility issues kept him home.

After learning of her cancer diagnosis in 2004, Sarah insisted that Honey learn how to handle their household finances and learn how to cook for himself. This led to a passion as well as talent for cooking. He was expected to bring his corn casserole and bake something sweet for all church functions and family holiday events or gatherings.

He served as a member of the Pipefitter Local for 75 years. He was a proud member of the Winnie area, attending all Texas Rice Festival Events as well as many Winnie Area Chamber of Commerce events. He was an active member of the Winnie-Stowell Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, which included years of parking cars at East Chambers Football games. He was a person many could go to as a handyman to fix things, especially at the church. He was still doing welding jobs for himself and others at the age of 85 He had a passion for gardening and won multiple awards at annual garden shows at Central Mall. At the age of 89 years old he bought a brand new Kubota Tractor to use for working around his property and to help others with landwork.

A devout Christian with an incredible work ethic, we will always miss those holiday gatherings around the dinner table where we joked around and picked on each other, and had him laughing until he was crying.

He is survived by: sons, James Hoffpauir and wife Lynn, Gary Hoffpauir and wife Lynda, and Randy Hoffpauir; daughter-in-love Annie Finn; grandchildren, Ken Hoffpauir and wife Shelley, Rama Bryceson and husband Josh, Royce Spencer and wife Kacie, Cole Hoffpauir and wife Kayla, Jessica Finn and husband Kaleb; great-grandchildren, Remy Hoffpauir, Otto and Sadie Bryceson, Kullen and Carter Spencer, Vayden Hoffpauir, Stevie Gray, Ivan and Korben Finn; brother L.D.
"Tootie" Hoffpauir and wife Marion; brothers-in-law Floyd Hamous and Lloyd Hamous and several nieces & nephews

He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Sarah Lea Hoffpauir; his son, Jeffrey Alan Hoffpauir; his great-grandson, Arthur Bryceson; brothers Emery "Joe" Hoffpauir, David Hoffpauir, and Virgil "Mushy" Hoffpauir; parents-in-law Dee & Elma Hamous, and several nieces & nephews

Although not related by blood, he also considered as family, those at First Baptist Church of Stowell as well as all of the Golding family.

The family would like to thank the host of wonderful and loving family and friends that ran errands and provided meals for him, especially FBC Winnie and FBC Stowell for the many meals delivered to his home. Special thanks to all that cared for him during the last year, including the staff at Arboretum of Winnie and Brookdale Dowlen Oaks in Beaumont.

A gathering of Floyd's family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Broussard's, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 117 Van Ostrand Lane, Stowell. His interment with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
