Notes - Obituary:
Lillo M. Baker, 85, died May 7, 2002 in Big Spring, Texas.
Born July 18, 1916, Lillo grew up in Abilene. He graduated from Texas A&M, class of 1940. Afterward, he married Elaine Warren and moved to Midland. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
In World War II, Lillo served in the Army and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, where he lost his dog tags. Lorenzo Maeirna of Belgium recovered the tags in 1993 and returned them to Lillo in person.
Serious and enthusiastic about his golf game, Lillo, a Parkinson's patient, was able to shoot straight consistent balls, up to the day he checked into the nursing home.
At age 70, he sank his first hole-in-one on the 171-yard par-three No. 7 in Abilene. Seven years later, he did it again on the No. 9 hole for a second career ace.
Quite the entertainer, Lillo played Bob Wills' music on his Martin guitar and pulled ventriloquist's jokes on friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Beverly.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Elaine and daughter, Beth Qualia both of Midland and son, Greg of Santa Fe, NM.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m.. Monday, May 13, 2002 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Reverend Dick Braun officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Texas, Midland, Texas, 79701.
