      WARD, John

John Allen Ward, age 63, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Born on February 2, 1954 in Corsicana, Texas, he was the youngest child of Martha and Travis Ward. He grew up in Athens, Texas and attended high school at Culver Military Academy. He came back to Texas and graduated from Corsicana high school. John attended the University of Texas Austin, where he joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated with a B.B.A. John chose a career in real estate; he held broker's licenses in three states. He sold and managed lake resort properties. He and his former wife, Michele Burris, raised two wonderful sons, John and Ben. John loved his sons; he was so proud of them. They loved him dearly and gave him the greatest pleasure in his life. John cheered for the Dallas Cowboys, winning or losing and loved the Texas Longhorns. He watched old games even though he knew the outcome. He also loved water skiing and being on the lake. John's unlimited warmth, generosity, loyalty, and sense of humor gained him the love and respect of many friends wherever he went. He loved helping people and held a strong leadership role in AA, very often leading meetings and making speeches of encouragement. John was a loving father, husband, son, brother and uncle. His father, Travis Ward, preceded him in death. He will be missed by his mother, Martha Carroll; his sons, John Allen Ward III and Benjamin Michael Ward. Also by his brothers Randy Ward and his wife, Katherine, Mike Ward and his wife Charlya, his sister, Debra Pierce and his former wife, Michele Burris. His nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Miller, Caroline Williams, Christine Flanagan, Allison Pierce, Rachel Gray, Laurie Brown, Randall Ward, Marybeth McMillan, and Michael Ward and seventeen great nieces and nephews will also miss him. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018, at United Methodist Church, Cox Chapel, at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children or a charity of your choice.
