Car, Truck Wreck Claimed Life Tuesday
A car, truck wreck that happened at 10:57 Tuesday morning claimed the life of Hubbard Nix, 62, white male of Seymour.
According to Floyd Burke chief of Seymour Police Department and investigating officer, Nix was heading west on U.S. Highway 114 and apparently failed to stop at the intersection of U.S. Highways 114 and 183.
Heading south on U.S. Highway was Steven Ray Surbert, 23, white male of Mason, Texas, coming from Oklahoma heading to Mason driving a 1979 Kenworth tractor-trailer loaded with 48,000 pounds of hay.
Nix who was driving a 1965 Chevrolet four door, ran under the trailer and his car traveled 190 feet coming to a rest at the north side of Ken's Exxon Station with the top sheared off and Nix being pinned inside his car.
The local Fire Department was called to the scene and used the "Jaws of Life" to free Nix. Nix was taken to the local hospital by Seymour/Baylor County EMS where Nix died a short time later.
Other officers assisting in the accident were Daniel Alvarado, city patrolman, Johnny Morris, DPS officer, Lavoy Ball, ABC officer, Dennis Gilbreat, deputy sheriff and Justice of Peace, Precinct One, O.R. Garner.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Seymour Church of Christ with ministers Paul Evans and W.E. Burkham officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Baylor County and attended school at Mary's Creek. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by two sisters, Alma Brown and Shirley Vickers, both of Seymour and a brother, Robert Nix of Munday.
