    • Obituary:

      Mrs. Ruth Bell Knouse, 81, of Zwolle, died in the Sabine Medical Center on May 23, 1985, at 5:14 p.m.

      Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church of Zwolle on Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Lee Dickson officiating. Interment was in the Zwolle Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many.

      Mrs. Knouse is survived by one son, Herman Knouse Jr. of Livingston, Tex.; three grandchildren, Nancy Helton of Conroe, Tex., Tommy Knouse of LaPorte, Tex., and Ann McClain of Richmond, Tex.; and five great grandchildren.

      Pallbearers were Jim Graves, James Q. Salter, John Patton Sr., Sherman Tatum, Jack Napier, and John Loring.

      Mrs. Knouse was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Zwolle schools for 45 years; a very active member of the Zwolle First Baptist Church, having served as Sunday School Superintendent, Training Union Director, Vacation Bible School Director, a very active member in the WMU, and a teacher in all departments of the church.

      She was also a member of the Sabine Parish Retired Teachers Association, 8th District Retired Teachers Association, and the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. She was the founder of the Sabine Parish PSI Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and held many offices of these organizations. She also was Co-Chairman of the first Tamale Fiesta Scrap Book.

      Mrs. Knouse was the first woman member of the Zwolle Planning Commission; member of the Zwolle Civic Club; member of Zwolle Cemetery Committee; was listed as the outstanding Educator of Delta Kappa Gamma; and was a very active President in the Sabine Parish Teacher's Association during her active teaching. She served as a Senior Sponsor for many years.

      In 1963, the yearbook "The Hawk's Flight" of the Zwolle High School was dedicated to Mrs. Knouse, with the following statement:

      "We, the Senior Class of 1963, with deep respect and admiration, dedicate this year's edition of the Hawk's Flight to a teacher who is a living symbol of all Zwolle High School stands for. Her inspired teaching of the last 34 years has imported knowledge to hundreds who will never forget her. It is with appreciative hearts that we Seniors dedicate this, our yearbook, to you Mrs. Ruth Knouse."

      Mrs. Knouse loved her community, church, and friends, and she served wherever she was needed.
