      Guinn Fain Hubbard

      GALVESTON - Dr. Guinn Fain Hubbard, 61, passed suddenly in Galveston of a heart attack Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006.

      Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

      Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Dr. Hubbard's family suggests that his memory may be honored with a gift to the American Diabetes Association by calling 1-800-DIABETES.

      Guinn Fain Hubbard was born in Fort Worth on Aug. 10, 1944, to Betty Jo and Gus Fain Hubbard.

      Dr. Hubbard was a graduate of Garland High School. He graduated with honors from Middle Tennessee State University, earning a degree in biology. He went on to graduate from Texas A&M with a masters in oceanography and a Ph.D in zoology. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1971 on the USS Yorktown. Dr. Hubbard, oceanographer and marine biologist, spent a large percent of the past 20 years researching and cataloging sea species. Dr. Hubbard was an accomplished artist, with a love for drawing, painting, creating stained glass and jewelry. Dr. Hubbard had a very unique sense of humor, a knack for poetry and fine music. Most recently, Dr. Hubbard taught at Texas A&M- Galveston.

      He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Fain Hubbard, and his loving niece, Bethena Brosz.

      Survivors: Mother, Betty Holeman and her husband, Bill Holeman, both of AzIe, Betty Hubbard Nickell and husband, Jim Nickell, both of Plano; brother, Randy Bonney and wife, Teresa of Hurst; sisters, Janet Shires and husband, Terry of Tioga, Kathy Smith of Richardson, Marilyn O'Hara of Plano; and longtime companion, Cherie LeBlanc of College Station; extended family including several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews who will miss Guinn's quick wit.
