    • Obituary:

Joan (Crow) Bromelmeier, 78, died on Sunday, June 16, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Greenway, AR to Truman and Laura (Milde) Crow. The family moved to Illinois where at 5 years old she began singing and harmonizing with her 3 year old sister LouEllen. The sisters together with their father were hired by radio station WDZ in Tescola, performing as The Crow Family. They later moved to Indianapolis, where they continued to perform live shows. The sisters added dancing to their act performing as The Crow Sisters. She graduated from the original Manual High School in Indianapolis and then attended Indiana University Bloomington receiving a Bachelor's Degree in English. There she met and later married Roy Bromelmeier. They lived in Germany and traveled throughout Europe while her husband served in the military, then settled in Fort Wayne. She eventually earned a Master's Degree in English Education from IPFW and taught in the Fort Wayne Community Schools and Indiana Tech where she was on the faculty and staff. As Students' Activities Coordinator she loved providing opportunities for students to share their talents and cultural histories in campus events. One of the greatest joys of her life was her children whom she encouraged and fully supported in all their interests and activities. She was the original editor of several organizational news letters. Her last job before retirement was as a lay minister in the Greater Fort Wayne Campus Ministry program. Throughout her life she was active with many community groups and organizations, but in retirement she especially enjoyed Fort Wayne Philharmonic Friends, her gourmet cooking club, and Bible Study Fellowship where for ten years she served as a discussion leader which was a life changing experience. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church for 35 years singing in the choir and serving in many capacities. One of her favorites was leading a small group of seniors in an exercise program. She loved the fine arts and enjoyed reading, old movies, and conversing with friends. She felt she lived a long, eventful, and blessed life. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy and her parents. She is survived by her children Lisa (Hugo), Cindy and Brad (Bettina); grandson William; sisters LouEllen Sears of Indianapolis and Helen Chmielewski of Florida, and brother Philip Crow of Florida; brother-in-law Charles (Beverly) Bromelmeier of Fort Wayne, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday, June 20 at Faith Baptist Church, 6600 Trier Rd, with calling 1 hour prior. Calling also 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at D.O.
