Notes - Obituary:
James W. Penuel, owner of Penuel Pharmacy at 3660 Central Ave., died Wednesday (Jan. 11, 1984). He was 59 and lived at 4259 Third Ave. S.
Mrs. Penuel ran for mayor in 1968 and was past president of Pinellas County Pharmaceutical Society and the Suncoast District Pharmacy Association. He served on the legislative committee of the Florida Pharmacy Association.
He received the A. H. Robbins award (Bowl of Hygeia) for outstanding community service in 1972. The same year he was Pharmacist of the Year for the Pinellas County Pharmacy Association. He worked with the Alpha Program and PAR.
Mr. Penuel was a surgical technician with the Army during World War II.
He was a member of Pasadena Baptist Church, a founder and former deacon of Maximo Baptist Church, and a 20-year and life member of Boca Ciega Kiwanis Club. He was Layman of the Year for the Kiwanis in 1972 and was Kiwanian of the Year in 1969.
Born in Auburndale, he came here in 1954 from Tallahassee and graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in chemistry and pharmacy.
Survivors include his wife Margaret; two sons, John H., St. Petersburg, and Dr. James W. Penuel Jr., North Fort Myers; his mother, Mrs. H. G. Penuel, and his sister, Mrs. A. J. Hedrick, both of Jacksonville, and two grandchildren.
Friends may visit from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kenfield Pasadena Avenue Chapel, where services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Bob Christie and Rev. Byron Twiggs officiating. Burial will follow in Royal Palm Cemetery. The family asks that contributions be made to Kiwanis Project Concern, 6810 10th Ave. N, St. Petersburg 33710.
