    Mrs. Lila Cummings Of Church Point Succumbs Wednesday

    Mrs. Lila Cummings, 68, of Church Point, died at 7:40 p.m. April 20 at the St. Landry Hospital following an illness of five days.

    Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, April 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Clay Bienvenu officiating.

    Born Lila McBride on July 24, 1880, Mrs. Cummings was a native of Church Point and had lived her entire life in that community.

    Survivors include her 98 year old father, Ed McBride of Church Point; her husband, Louis Cummings, of Church Point; four sons, Ebenezer Miller of Lewisburg, John M. Miller of Baton Rouge, Edwin R. Cummings and Alec B. Cummings of Opelousas; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Gautreaux of Lewisburg and Mrs. Elmer Guillory of Church Point, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    The First National Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Laurent Gautreaux, 80, were to be held at 3 p.m. today in St. Landry Roman Catholic Church here with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park.

    Mrs. Gautreaux, the former Isabelle Miller of Opelousas, died at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday in Opelousas General Hospital following a short illness.

    Survivors include two sons, Paul Gautreaux of Opelousas and John Gautreaux of Sunset; two daughters, Mrs. Edmond (Jeanette) Thibodeaux, Jr., and Mrs. Joseph Harold (Allee) Ray, both of Opelousas; a brother, Ebenezer Miller of Opelousas; two half brothers, A.B. Cummings of Opelousas and E.R. Cummings of Baton Rouge; a half sister, Mrs. Elmer (Irene) Guillory of Opelousas; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services for Mr. Ebenezer Miller, 91, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park.

    Mr. Miller, a resident of Opelousas, died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 1998, in Opelousas General Hospital. He was a retired farmer.

    Miller Rites Set in Baton Rouge Today

    Final rites for J.M. Miller Sr., 59, of Baton Rouge, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Burial will be in Green Oak cemetery there.

    Miller died at 2:15 a.m. today at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was a native of Church Point. He was employeed by Humble Oil and Refining Co. for the past 29 years.

    Survivors are his widow, the former Seida Albin of Baton Rouge; two sons, J.M. Miller, Jr. of Shreveport and Roy Miller of Baton Rouge; three daughters, Mrs. Elaine M. Russell and Mrs. Lelia M. Johnson, both of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Linda M. Borskey of Lafayette; one brother, Ebenezer Miller, and one sister, Mrs. Lawrence Gautreaux, both of Opelousas; his step-father, Louis Cummings of Opelousas; two half-brothers, A.B.     Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018 for Irene Cummings Guillory at St. Landry Catholic Church. The Reverend Monsignor Louis Melancon will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

    Irene Cummings Guillory, age 99 and a longtime resident of Opelousas, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family and friends.

    Ms. Irene was a devout catholic and attended St. Landry Catholic Church religiously. She loved spending time with her family at family gatherings. In her free time, she enjoyed going to the casino. Ms. Guillory will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

    She is survived by her grandson, Glenn "Thad" Guillory of Baton Rouge; special great-niece, Sandra T. Ryder of Opelousas; and special friend, Liz Dunbar of Opelousas.

    She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmer Guillory; parents, Louis and Lela McBride Cummings; son, Glenn T. Guillory; daughter-in-law, Dee Guillory; brothers, Edwin R. Cummings, A.B. Cummings, Ebenezer Miller and Montgomery Miller; sisters, Isabella M. Gautreaux and Virginia M. Bourgeois; and a very special niece, Jeanette G. Thibodeaux.

    Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home. It will continue in the funeral home on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.

    Pallbearers will be Mike Ryder, Dylan Ryder, Sandra Ryder, Vanessa Ortego, Josh Jolivette and Charles Cummings.

    The family would like to thank Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care and Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home for their care and compassion during Ms. Irene Guillory's time of need.

    Born in Orange, Texas, on November 12, 1925, Nora was the daughter of Simon A. Bourgeois and Mary Virginia Miller Bourgeois. She graduated from Orange High School in 1944; where she was a member of the Bengal Guard. Nora was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earnest T. Sanders, brothers, Herman Bourgeois and S.A. Booty Bourgeois, Jr.; and sister, Vivian Carr.

    Nora is survived by her son, Steve Sanders and his wife, Leslie of Houston, Texas; daughter, Vicki Schell and husband, Doug of Hideaway, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Schell, Katy Schell, and Olivia Sanders; and great-grandchild, Blake Schell; sister-in-law, JoAnn Bourgeois; and sister, Jeanette Calhoun and husband, Charles.

    Mr. S.A. "Booty" Bourgeois died Thursday afternoon at a local hospital after an extended illness. He was 81 years old. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Orange, Texas.

    Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

    Mr. Bourgeois is survived by JoAnn, his wife of 58 years. He is also survived by sisters, Nora Lee Sanders and Jeannete Calhoun; six nieces; and six nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, S.A. Bourgeois Sr. and Virginia Miller Bourgeois; a sister, Vivian Carr; and a brother, Herman Bourgeois.

    He was born in Orange, Texas, on October 25, 1927, and graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange in 1945. Shortly after graduation, he volunteered for the U.S. Army and served 18 months during World War II. In 1948, he went to work for the Texas Highway Department and was involved with the construction of highways and bridges in the Southeast Texas area. In 1950, he was employed at the DuPont Chemical Co. in Orange. He retired as mechanical foreman in 1985 with 35 years of service.

    He was a former member of the Orange Lions Club and the Orange Boating Club. He was an avid golfer and a true Texas Longhorn fan through good and bad times. He had resided in Longview for the last 14 years.

    Pallbearers will be Robert Bourgeois, Steven Sanders, Tom Goodwyn, David Goodwyn, Dick Porter and Reid Caruthers.

    Memorials may be made to Saint Mary's Catholic Church of Longview, Saint Mary's Catholic Church of Orange, or the American Lung Association.

    Mrs. Ray, who was a resident of Opelousas, died on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at 3:10 a.m. in the Homer Memorial Hospital.

    John was a native of Lewisburg, La. and was a longtime resident of Sunset, La. He died on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.

    Mr. Goutreaux was the manager of the Food Preservation Lab at Sunset High School, a division of the St. Landry Parish School System until his retirement. John was a first responder for the Sunset Volunteer Fire Department he served as the assistant Chief and SecretaryTreasurer of the Fire Department. John was a life time member of the La. State Firemans Association served as the Civil Defense Director for the Town of Sunset served in the La. National Guard for 8 years was chosen as the Man of the Year and received the Distinguished Service to Mankind Award from the Sunset Sertoma Club but his greatest treasure was being a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. John enjoyed working in his garden, going fishing, camping and cooking and eating with his family and friends. One of his greatest loves was being a part of the St. Charles choir and singing in Church. John is going to be missed by all that loved and knew him.

    Survivors include his wife, Mary Nelwyn "Nellie" Devalcourt Goutreaux; daughters, Jonell G. Guidry and husband James of Sunset, Charisse G.     OPELOUSAS - Funeral services for Paul Gautreaux, 51, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church here with burial following in the Bellevue Memorial Park.

    Mr. Gautreaux, a native of Lewisburg and resident of Opelousas, died at 4:50 p.m. Friday at Doctors' Hospital in Opelousas following a short illness.

    Funeral services for B. Lawrence "Toby" Gautreaux, 27, of 823 Rose Ann St., Opelousas, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Landry Catholic Church. Burial was in Bellevue Memorial Park under direction of the First National Funeral Home.

    Gautreaux was electrocuted Friday morning in an accident at United Packers, Dr. A.E. Williams, St. Landry Parish coroner, said.

    Gautreaux suffered an electric shock about 10:45 a.m. at the plant. He was pronounced dead two hours later at St. Landry Clinic.

    James Pitre, manager of United Packers, said the accident occurred while Gautreaux was on a ladder working on wiring in one of the canning rooms at the plant.

    Gautreaux is survived by his widow, the former Jeralyn Reed, and one daughter, Sonia Kay Gautreaux, both of Opelousas; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laurent Gautreaux; and two sisters, Mrs. Harold Ray of Opelousas and Mrs. Edmon Thibodeaux of Houma.
