Notes - Obituary:
Melvin Christian Menning, born March 28, 1916 to Christian and Augusta Menning in Shiner, Texas, died October 10, 2001 in Kingwood, Texas. Melvin served in WWII in the 4th Air Services Group in North Africa, France, Italy and Sicily. He was employed by Peden Iron and Steel for 30 years and then Sooner Pipe and Supply until he retired in 1984. In 1972, Mel and Ceil moved to Kingwood, where they became the 10th family to reside in that new community. Mel served as a trustee for the Trailwood Village Comunity Association from 1988 until 1993. He is preceded in death by his brother Leroy and his sister Pearl. He is survived by his wife, Clara "Ceil" Menning; daughters Pamela Storer of Waco, Texas and Rosemary Jamison of Patterson, N.Y.; brother Jesse Menning of East Bernard, Texas; and sisters Leola Slaton of Hallettsville, Texas and Geneva Danna of West Columbia, Texas. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 13, 2001 in the chapel of Kingwood Funeral Home with the Reverend Nancy Parsons officiating. Interment will be private in Antioch Cemetery in Buna, Texas with the Reverend Ron Whittle officiating.
