    • Obituary:

Mary Anita Niederkorn, age 73, of McHenry, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 4, 2018 at her home, with her family by her side. She was born October 16, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY to Jerome and Ann (Rieckehoff) Teixeira. On October 16, 1971 she married David H. Niederkorn in Oak Park, IL.

Mary was a nurse, loving mother, deeply loyal friend, and fierce defender of the underdog. She was a long time resident of the Chicago area where she lived since leaving New York as a teenager. She graduated from Glen Ellyn High School and went on to get her nursing degree in Kansas, fulfilling her true vocation.

She thrived for 30 years as a nurse bringing leadership and mentorship to her colleagues as well as patient-centered care, before that was a term. She loved visiting her winter home in Florida, playing with the Golf Buddies, and volunteering to serve the Florida immigrant community. Even after she retired, she volunteered with elderly care and the homeless.

Mary leaves behind her loving husband of 46 years, David; four children, Bill Plastina, Tony (Tracy) Plastina, Jason (Dianne Munevar) Niederkorn, Alison Niederkorn; five grandchildren, Jess, Joshua, Zachary, Lincoln, Lucy; two brothers, Skip (Helene) Teixeira, Bob (Marie) Teixeira; a sister-in-law, Mary Teixeira; and her devoted companion "Roscoe," who never left her side.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jerry and Ronnie Teixeira.

Friends and neighbors are invited to gather for a Celebration of Mary's Life on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
