She was born in College Station, Texas to the late Emmitt James and Albina Frances Blazek Ross. Nell is survived by her children, Kristan Summerlin Ritchey and husband Patrick of Camp Hill, PA, Scott Blane Summerlin of Austin, TX, Karen Summerlin Flowers and husband William of Sugarland, TX, Kelly Summerlin Schleider and husband John of Washington, TX; sisters, Mickey Gandy of Brownwood, TX, Patsy Sargent of Dorchester, TX, Helen Kennon of Houston, TX, Sue Flato of Corpus Christi, TX and Dianne Feldman of College Station, TX; brothers, Emmitt James "Buck" Ross of Victoria, TX; Robert L. Ross of Anderson, TX and J.D. Ross of East Bernard, TX and four grandchildren, Brynn Murphy Ritchey, Jackson Ross Flowers, John Dabbs Schleider, Jr. and Benjamin Herman Schleider, IV. Nell was a graduate of A&M Consolidated High School and attended business school. She was a partner of Rings N Things gift shop for 28 years. Nell was a long time member of Baptist Temple Church, where she served as an elementary Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of Bronte Club and the Junior League. She was also on the board of the Children's Discovery Museum and the Victoria Public Library. Nell is remembered by her children as always thinking of others first. She was gentle, kind and a loyal friend. She was adored by her four loving grandchildren and was a big part of their young lives. The Funeral Service will be held 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 1, 2005 at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gene Rice officiating. Private graveside services will be held. Pallbearers will be her brothers, Emmitt James "Buck" Ross, Robert L. Ross, J.D. Ross and her son-in-laws, Patrick Ritchey, William Flowers and John Schleider. He was also a Life Member of VFW Post #4458. He loved computers and watching westerns especially John Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents. 2 brothers; Frank and Wilton Marek. | 2956 | Obituary: Neoma Laughlin Carwile June 13, 1920 - July 4, 2005 Neoma Laughlin Carwile passed away on Monday, July 4, 2005 at Air Force Village II Health Care Center. She was born on June 13, 1920 in Red River, OK to Andrew Law Laughlin and Hattie Myrtle Austin. She graduated as a registered nurse from St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, TX in 1940. She had various nursing positions around Texas, but her most memorable job was the only public health nurse in El Paso, TX. During that time she met Ernest Dean Carwile and married him in Midland, TX on September 20, 1942. They were married 63 years. She joyfully moved all over the country and wourld with her husband. She loved being an Air Force wife and happily entertained their many friends in their many homes. Col. and Mrs. Carwile moved to Air Force Village II in December, 1989. This was truly Eden. She planned to live here and for them to safely go home to the Lord in this wonderful place. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ernest Dean Carwile; daughters, Constance S. Wyckoff and husband Peter B., Glen Rose, TX, Cynthia L. Seidensticker and husband, John D., League City, TX; son, Ernest D. | 2961 | Obituary: Nick Crnkovic, Sr. September 10, 1930 - December 21, 2023 Nick Crnkovic, Sr. was born to Alphonse and Mary Crnkovic on September 10, 1930 in Oak Grove, Louisiana and died on December 21, 2023 at the age of 93. He was married to Jo-Anne Renyolds Crnkovic. He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Mary Crnkovic; Jo-Anne Renyolds Crnkovic, his wife; and older sister Louise Pate. Nick began working while still in high school working several jobs in his hometown of Hemphill Texas including movie projectionist, soda jerk, logging truck driver and working the wheat harvest through Kansas and Colorado. Then after a short stay in the navy he went to Houston. Nick attended college and apprentice school to become a journeyman sheet metal worker. While working for Straus Systems, he worked his way up to field superintendent supervising large commercial projects. After 43 years at Straus he retired in 1995. Nick and Jo-Anne married in June of 1952. They resided their entire lives in Houston. They raised 4 children and were very active in the church, in the community. They also traveled throughout the US, Canada, Central America, and Europe. Nick was president of the Civic Club for many years, involved in the Positive Interactive Program (PIP), Houston Citizens Police Academy Alumni, Citizen Patrol, and was appointed to committees and advisory boards for the City of Houston. He received several accolades and awards for his community service from governmental officials. On a more personal level he took up yoga, expanded his hobbies and found delight in making intricate and elaborate wooden toys for his great grandchildren. Nick and Jo-Anne celebrated 60 years of marriage before she passed in 2012. They have 4 children: Diane Alleva, Nick Crnkovic, Jr and wife Susan, Kathy McManus and husband Dan, and Leslie Crnkovic. He also has 6 grandchildren: Marie Henry, Daniel McManus, Robert Alleva, Sarah Crnkovic, Gary Alleva, and Mary Crnkovic Lee, as well as 8 great grandchildren. Nick is survived by all of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his brothers Fred and Rickey Crnkovic, sister Cheryl Crnkovic Vines, and several nieces and nephews. She went peacefully surrounded by her girls. She cherished 35 wonderful years of marriage to James W. Philmon Jr. until his death in 1981. She owned her own beauty salon for 32 years. After retirement she worked for the Ladies Auxiliary, known as the " Pink Ladies," at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital for 13 years. She was a lady with many hobbies, such as cooking, working in her yard and sewing. Her sense of humor and wonderful smile will be greatly missed. Nola had seven grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Clement and Mea Leger Clement; her husband of 68 years, Wilson Gaspard; one daughter-in-law, Gloria LaPoint Gaspard; and one grandson, Shannon Gaspard. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the owners and staff of Rayne Guest Home for the love and wonderful care that Nola received during the nine years that she was a guest there. Smith on Dec. 8, 1945, and moved to Florida immediately thereafter. They had been married 57 years. She was a graduate of the St. Charles Academy class of 1936. She was an excellent gourmet cook who read cookbooks like novels. She did beautiful detailed French embroidery and hand sewing, which is nearly a lost art today. She was a strong woman who was proud to be Cajun. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Winter Garden. She was a member of Eastern Star for many years. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin R. Muffley. Survivors include her loving husband; two daughters, Mathilda P. Bohanon of Sebring, Fla., and Elizabeth S. | 2983 | Obituary: O'CONNOR, JOSEPH PATRICK BLACKSTONE March 17,1939 to Feb. 22, 2013 Joe succumbed to his fight with cancer at his home with family and friends at his side. He was a lifelong East San Diego County resident. Joe was an avid car enthusiast, reader and garage sale purveyor. Joe was an electrician by trade and retired from GES after 17 years of service in 2010. He was a proud member of IBEW Local 569. Most importantly he was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. Joe is survived by his dear wife, Nancy, as well as 10 children, 18 grandchildren, his brothers Michael and Steven, 6 nieces and nephews and numerous close friends. Joe lived life to its fullest and inspired those around him to do the same. He will be forever missed. He made a successful career doing stunt work, training "fall" horses and wrangling for many modern westerns and films involving livestock. | 2987 | Obituary: Old-Time Resident Succumbs Friday, Nov. 18 marked the passing of another of Rayne's old time residents, Mr. John LeBleu, who died at the age of 66 years. Mr. LeBleu had lived here 44 years having raised all his family here. On Dec. 1, Mr. and Mrs. LeBleu would have been married 43 years. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Celina Clement; four children, Mrs. L. Boudreaux, Mrs. C. J. LeBlanc, Miss Theresa LeBleu and Ben LeBleu; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and four brothers and three sisters, all of whom live in Lake Charles. Funeral services were held Saturday evening from St. Joseph's Catholic church with interment in St. Joseph's cemetery. Mr. LeBleu had been ill for several years and his death came not unexpectedly, but as a merciful relief from his earthy sufferings. He was a devout Catholic, his religion being his greatest comfort in his last hours when all else except spiritual things count as but dross. He was a member of American Legion Post 15 and on the Rice Festival Board of Directors. He was recently awarded the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal. O.P. loved to spend time with his family and especially with his grand children. He was an avid golfer and loved traveling. After his discharge from active duty, he went to work for South Central Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company in Crowley as a lineman. In his 40 years of service to "Ma Bell", he worked in a variety of positions. He was a member of the Communications Workers of America while working for "Ma Bell". He was born Jan. 21, 1976, in Longview, Wash., to Ralph and Helen Anderson. His mother survives, residing in Astoria. His father preceded him in death. Mr. Anderson graduated from Astoria High School. He lived in the Clatsop County area until 1996. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Family members said he loved gold mining, fishing and hunting. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, his twin, Daisy Anderson of Seaside and Bess Anderson and her husband, Josh Bunnell, of Astoria; a brother, Dale Anderson of Springfield; and three children, Darren, Brian and Jasmine Anderson, of Alabama.
