| 254 | Death Notice: MAN FOUND SLAIN; POLICE HOLD WOMAN Body Picked Up on Sidewalk, Mrs. Lazroe Admits Shooting, Officers Say Acting on a number of frantic telephone calls which poured into police headquarters about 1 o'clock this morning to the effect that a murder had been committed, police rushed out to the nineteen hundred block on Walnut street to find a man dead on the sidewalk with a bullet in his breast and a half-elad woman raving close by. The dead man was identified as Paul LeBlanc, of 1638 Maple street, a switchman in the employ of the K. C. S. railroad. The woman, Mrs. W. M. Lazroe, of 1919 Walnut street, admitted the shooting, according to the police and is being held on a charge of murder. At first so hysterical that she could not talk coherently, Mrs. Lazroe, who was later joined by her husband, calmed down sufficiently to describe what had taken place. According to her story, LeBlanc and his wife were boarders in her home about 18 months ago. They had been there about six months when disagreements sent them elsewhere. Since that time, Mrs. Lazroe declares, LeBlanc has continually forced his attentions upon her and despite every rebuff lost no opportunity to talk to her or endeavor to molest her particularly in the evenings, owing to the fact that her husband is employed at night. Last night about 12 o'clock the woman told the police LeBlanc came to the door of her home and knocked. Believing that it was her husband she sad she opened the door and the man began to abuse her violently telling her to "stay away from my wife and not come around there annoying her with men in automobiles." Mrs. Lazroe said she failed to grasp the man's meaning and told him to get out as her husband would be home any minute. She says he took this hint and went off, cursing her. She then told the police that she went into her room, got a revolver and followed LeBlanc down the street, catching up with him in front of 1965 Walnut street. Here she says she called upon him to put up his hands. She said he turned around laughing and said: "you have not the nerve to shoot." With that, she said, she pulled the trigger and the man fell dead. She then ran up an alley and got into her house by the back way. Coming out a little later she surrendered to the police. She is being held in police headquarters. Edward Causey, whose home is at 1969 Walnut street told police he was wakened by the noise of a revolver shot. He jumped to the window and saw the body of the man sprawled over the sidewalk in front of the house. He dashed out, he said, and as he did Mrs. Lazroe, accompanied by a man came up and stopped in front of the body. The woman was in a hysterical condition. Causey telephoned the police and waited by the body till the officers arrived. (Published in The Shreveport Times on December 1, 1922) | LeBlanc, Paul Charles (I376)

| 279 | Death Notice: MISHAP FATAL TO WOMAN IS UNDER PROBE Mrs. Lydia Wagner Expires After She Is Found Injured in Ditch Following Car Upset. An investigation into the death of Mrs. Lydia Mabel Wagner, 32, of 814 Sabine, who was injured fatally at 6 p.m. Wednesday when her car overturned on the Conroe Highway, was under way Thursday by Houston police. Mrs. Wagner died in St. Josephs Infirmary at 7:10 p.m., about an hour after she was found by a Houston police officer and his brother in a small ditch partly filled with water. R. M. Anders, police officer, of 4116 Watson, and his brother were returning from a hunting trip Wednesday night when they found a coupe overturned in the ditch. Truckmen Quizzed. Two cotton truck drivers who were seen near the scene of the accident, were questioned at length by Officer Anders, but the two men were unable to shed any light on the accident. The men told Anders that they were headed for North Texas for a load of cotton. The men said they could not explain how the accident happened. However, one of the truck drivers said that the had heard a crash. Officers investigating said that they had learned that Mrs. Wagner was returning from a pecan picking expedition when the accident occurred. Officer's Statement. Anders said that he learned the identity of the womaan when he investigated an address on Sabine Street - an address Mrs. Wagner mumbled. "I found Mrs. Wagner lying about 15 feet away from her automobile in the ditch on the west side of the road. I picked her up and found that she was practically unconscious. I knew she was in a serious condition so I wasted no time in getting to the nearest telephone to call an ambulance," Anders said in a statement to other officers. A Fogle-West ambulance carried the injured woman to the hospital, where it was learned that she had suffered a broken neck. She died about an hour later. A theory that the woman was struck by another automobile, which failed to stop, was advanced by Anders. Justice Campbell Overstreet, who held an inquest, announced that he was withholding his verdict pending the outcome of the investigation. She is survived by three sons, W. C., Ira and Robert Johnston, all of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Lucky, Mrs. Pearl Ferguson, Mrs. Evia Bartee and Mrs. Ethel Hillyer, all of Houston; three brothers, Charles Johnston of Houston, Howard and Jim Johnston, both of Normangee, Texas. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Fogle-West Company. (Published in The Houston Chronicle on December 10, 1931) | Johnston, Lydia Mabel (I16567)

| 283 | Death Notice: MR. AND MRS. CARLOS LeBLANC DROWN IN BAYOU AT LAFAYETTE; SEARCHERS FIND BODIES; DOG KEEPING WATCH Police Believe Woman Fell in Water and Her Husband Attempted to Rescue Her, Both Meeting Death; Fishing Tackle, Hats and Baskets Found Near Spot Where Remains Were Recovered; C. J. LeBlanc, One of the Brothers of the Dead Man, Lives in Rayne; Double Funeral will be Held Tomorrow Morning at Broussard; Deceased Leaves Large Number of Relatives. A fishing trip ended fatally for Mr. and Mrs. Carlos LeBlanc, of Lafayette, who were drowned in Bayou Vermilion, in an unaccountable manner, some time yesterday. The body of Mrs. LeBlanc was found in the bayou about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, not far from the Baldwin Lumber Company's plant. It was floating facing downward when it was taken out of the water and removed to an undertaking parlor in Lafayette. At 8 o'clock last night, a number of men in a boat, were searching the bayou for the body of Mr. LeBlanc. It was found about 300 yards from the spot where the woman's body was discovered. It was on the bottom of the bayou. One of the members of the searching party dived in the bayou and brought the body to the surface of the water. The fishing tackle, hats, baskets and other things brought to the banks of the stream by Mr. and Mrs. LeBlanc, were found close to where the bodies were recovered. The police in Lafayette are of the opinion that Mrs. LeBlanc must have fallen in the water and that her husband went after her, both meeting their death. A collie dog went along with Mr. and Mrs. LeBlanc, who left their home in Lafayette early in the morning. Later in the day the dog came to the LeBlanc home, as if to give warning of what had happened, but the folks in the neighborhood paid no heed to him. When the bodies of the woman and man were found, the dog was keeping watch over their belongings of Mr. and Mrs. LeBlanc on the banks of the bayou.
