His parents were Inez and John Davis Warren. His father died when he was four years old. His mother raised Jerry and his two siblings by opening a men's boarding house in Houston during World War II. She was a great cook, and the boarding house was a success. Jerry graduated from Austin High School in Houston and then enrolled at Texas A & M where he received his Bachelor's degree in geophysics in 1957. He was commission into the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. His first assignment was to study meteorology at Texas A & M. After completing his studies, he was assigned to the Weather Office Station at Sewert Air Force Base in Smyrna, Tennessee. When his Air Force duty was complete, the couple moved back to Texas, and he began a long and successful career as a geophysicist. His work carried him to Alaska, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Russia, China and all parts of the United States. He was a life member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Along the way he received his Master's degree from the University of Houston in physics. He became an avid UH supporter with season tickets to both football and basketball and endowed several scholarships to the University of Houston. He was a quite and gracious man who showed kindness to everyone he met. He bragged about his children's success and loved spending time with his grandchildren talking to them about the world and his adventures, but mainly focusing on their futures and how proud he was of the young women they were becoming. Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 years Carolyn F. Warren; daughter Deirdre Warren; son Mark Warren and his wife Dyvette Warren and their children, Allyse & Julia Warren. Jerry, Carolyn, and their children, Deirdre and Mark, traveled the world and made homes wherever they landed. It was a life they all enjoyed! Born to George Allen Vance and Annie Maybell Sexton Vance in Caldwell, TX on January 9, 1930, Anita was the 6th of 10 children. Anita's family worked as sharecroppers, working the land and harvesting cotton. Anita recalled that at 5 years old she received her first cotton sack, a 5 lb flour sack, to use while working hard alongside her family in the Texas sun. Anita graduated from Caldwell High School in 1948, attended business school, and worked in hospitals and doctor's offices for 22 years until she retired on the day her last grandchild was born. Anita was a skilled seamstress, clothing her children and family, crocheting, and masterfully creating beautiful quilts. Anita was also skilled at canning and preserving, she was known for her delicious fig, apricot, and dewberry preserves. Anita had a penchant for "rescuing" stuffed animals from flea markets and mending their battle scars with care. She was an avid reader of western novels, particularly the books of Louis La'Amour, but if she ever came across a dirty word during her reading, she sent it straight to the burn pile. Anita was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith and often wore a mustard seed encased in glass on her necklace as a personal reminder of her faith. Anita was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Marion Kubena, her siblings; Lucille Vance Jones, Evelyn Hall, George (Buck) Vance Jr., Alice Vance, Earnest (Bud) Vance, Grace Louis, Robert (Bob) Vance, Andrew (Joe) Vance, James (Jim) Vance, and her daughter; Lynnette Diane Kubena. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Marcus Daniel Guerra and wife Amy Anderson Guerra, Leslie Nicole Danielle Guerra Fernandez and husband Fernando Juan Fernandez Jr, and her great-grandchildren; Lucy Leigh Guerra and Samantha Adele Fernandez, among numerous cousins and friends. Affectionately known as Grandma Niti to her great granddaughters, Anita maintained her snappy wit and sly humor throughout her life, charming those who knew her even through her declining health and memory. Her care for the last 12 years has been overseen with love by her middle child and she left us peacefully after a short fight with a terrible illness. Anita will be remembered for her faith, her love, her skill, her humor, and her tenacious spirit. | 490 | Obituary: Anna Marie Jeanmard Thibeaux June 27, 1930 - August 2, 2024 "Motherhood ... all love begins and ends there." Our dear sweet mother, who was the heart and soul of our family, sadly passed away at the tender age of 94. With a soft voice and gentle touch, our mom was a never-ending source of kind words and deeds. Nearly every conversation with her included a warm laugh or a sweet giggle. Through the decades, she instinctively knew when help was needed and was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, especially for her children and grandchildren. She was always more interested in the happiness of others with little concern for herself. She was the last of a bygone generation known for style and grace. She was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church since 1956. Each morning was devoted to prayer for her children, for the sick, and for the needy. She attended noon Mass every day. The family would especially like to thank her "partners in prayer" who would meet after the noon Mass every Tuesday to recite the Patriotic Rosary. This dedicated routine shaped her into the beautiful lady for whom she was known. Her hobbies and talents were many, but nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her family - either cooking one of her legendary meals or hosting family vacations at a beach front condo. Her favorite activities included sightseeing old homes from yesteryear and waiting for the azalea blooms at springtime. She especially enjoyed sewing custom apparel for her family. She attended Mt. Carmel where she played on the basketball team. She graduated from The College of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. She was employed as an executive secretary for GMAC, then for PHI Helicopters, finally retiring from the Land Dept. @ Conoco Oil Company. She is the widow of Jerome Anthony Thibeaux of Jeanerette, LA. Born in Lafayette, LA as the youngest child of J. Frank Jeanmard and Lucille Perres Jeanmard, her late siblings are: Marie Louise Jeanmard, Monsignor Jules A. Jeanmard, Lucille Jeanmard Traub, and Blanche Jeanmard Bettis. She has 5 children (and daughter-in-law): Joe (Gilda), Martin, Bill, Mina, and Chris; 3 grandchildren (and grandson-in-law, granddaughter-in-law): Lauren (David), Joshua (Kim), and Ciara; 5 great-grandchildren: Ava, Jacob, Nolan, Eloi, and Julian. She was the last surviving child of the siblings of the 1st Bishop of Lafayette, His Excellency Jules B. Jeanmard (Uncle Julot), serving the Diocese of Lafayette from 1918-1956. She passed away at the Calcutta House under the tender care of the entire staff. Her family will be eternally grateful. Honorary pallbearers are: Dr. Milton Jolivette MD and Wendell Bares Esq. Our mother taught us every good thing - except how to live without her. Flowers are most welcomed; however, donations may be made in her name to: Calcutta House c/o Hospice of Acadiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Parish Hall in Lafayette on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow in St. John's Cemetery Mausoleum. Reverend Gilbert Dutel will officiate the Mass and will conduct the funeral service. The Thibeaux family will receive visitors at Martin & Castille Funeral Home's DOWNTOWN location on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 9:45 AM with a French recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:00 AM in the funeral home. | 499 | Obituary: Anthony Gregg Hotter CARLSBAD - Anthony Gregg Hotter, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away at the age of 43 in Farmington, N.M., on March 18, 2006. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Tony was born in Carlsbad on Oct. 25, 1962. He was the oldest and biggest of three brothers. He used this position to reach his early goal in life - to bug his younger brothers and make their lives as miserable as possible. A skill he later passed on to his two children. He was a hard worker with goals and ambitions and worked himself up from installation to office manager of several major cable companies. While he was in high school, he met the love of his life, Peggy. When they met, he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and tried to win her over with his self-proclaimed handsomeness. He did charm her and got her "I do" - not because of his good looks (Though he would insist otherwise), but because of the way he made her laugh and the way he loved his mom. He adored Peg and was miserable if they had to spend a day apart. They were not only husband and wife, but they were each other's best friend and life companions. The two happiest days of their lives were when Michael and Leslie were born. The kids were their life. Tony and Peg were content being home with their children. That was all they wanted. If Michael and Leslie were happy, they were happy. Of course, of the Dallas Cowboys won on Sunday, that didn't exactly ruin Tony's day. Tony will be deeply missed. He left us much too soon. He will always be part of our lives. The stories and memories will continue on in the lives of all of us that he left behind. He is survived by his adoring wife, Peggy, of the family home; a son, Michael Hotter and wife Cahneewah of Honalulu, Hawaii; a daughter, Leslie Hotter of the family home; parents Dove and Tommie Bryan of Carlsbad and Tony Hotter of Livingstone, Texas; brothers, Scott Hotter and wife Margrethe of Carlsbad, and Rodney Hotter of Albuquerque; and loving grandchildren, Brooklyn and Xavier of Hawaii.
