1265 Obituary:

Gwenda Joyce Aldridge was born to Lloyd and Joyce Harrison on January 10, 1948 in Odessa, Texas. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1966. She began her career with Southwestern Bell in 1970, where she retired in 2000 after 30 years of service. Gwenda married James Dwayne Aldridge in 1972 and together they had three children: Larry Ray Aldridge, Tiffany Leigh Aldridge, and Amber Christine Aldridge. In 1995, Gwenda added a most precious member to the family when she adopted Taylor Lea Aldridge.

Gwenda spent her life being a mother to all who knew her. While raising her four kids, she saw a countless number of young people come through her door distraught, scared, or in trouble. Each time, she welcomed them with an open heart and words of wisdom. She was stern yet loving. Once she loved you, she always loved you. She was not always gentle with her words, but she was always honest and generally knew what was best even if it was hard to hear. Gwenda taught her children the importance and value of work ethic and she lead by example. She worked hard to provide for her family after the sudden loss of their father while the children were still young. She did not complain and did not seek help from others. She simply made things happen. This is who she was. Gwenda made sure that her kids were raised to be self-sufficient and taught them everything from how to boil an egg to how to properly use a screwdriver, and that sometimes a butterknife doubles as one just fine! Gwenda was a fierce protector and supporter of the underdog and found happiness in helping others. Even in her times of personal struggle, she would often fret about those in need. She could regularly be seen giving food to strangers or inviting people to share what ever she had, no matter how small. This was also true with animals. With great resistance from her children, she insisted on having various pets over the years. The more trouble the pet was, the better. She sure loved a challenge! She also loved playing phase 10, but Phase 10 with Gwenda required total commitment because she planned each move strategically, giving the other players time to nap or even enjoy a meal as long as they didn't leave the table! She was serious about winning with no regard to the time it took.

Gwenda loved to laugh. If she laughed at your expense, it was because you were loved. She had a way about her that could turn almost any situation into a laughing matter. It was her sense of humor that got her through the rough parts of life, and It was her sense of humor that made her easy to talk to and easy to trust. It will no doubt make her easy to miss.

Gwenda loved with her whole heart and was always able to see the good in those around her, even when they had trouble seeing it in themselves. She set an example for her children by loving people as they were.

Gwenda will never be forgotten and has left a hole in the hearts of those who love her. Her children will miss her laugh, her hugs, her heart, her advice, and the love that only a mother can give. While there is immense pain in her absence, There is comfort in knowing that what she left behind can never compare to the glorious Kingdom of Heaven where she is now spending eternity.

"If I know what love is, it is because of you"

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Joyce Harrison, her grandparents, Bama and Grandpa Lancaster, her son, Larry "Chip" Aldridge, and her son in law, Guy Farley.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Tiffany and Paul Fioroni; daughter, Amber Farley; daughter and son in law Taylor and Hunter Skelton, granddaughters Kyleigh Fioroni, Kymber Farley and MaKayla Farley; grandsons Pierce Fioroni and Quinn Skelton; and great grandson Baylor Prescott.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 19, 2022 at 10 AM with Pastor Roy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ward 2 Man Fatally Hurt in Auto Accident, Succumbs

Homer P. LeBlanc, 55 years old, member of the Rapides parish police jury from Ward 2, died at the United States Veterans Hospital, at 4 o'clock this morning, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident, Monday afternoon.

The unfortunate man was injured, when the truck in which he was traveling, en route to his home in the Latanier community, skidded in loose gravel and turned over three times. He is said to have sustained internal injuries, his right lung having been crushed and he also sustained serious head bruises.

He was picked up and conveyed to his home, and his injuries were at first thought not to be serious, but his condition became worse early yesterday morning. An ambulance of Hixson Brothers was sent to his home and conveyed him to the Veterans' Hospital, where it was said, he was in a dying condition, but he lingered until this morning, when he succumbed to his injuries.

Mr. LeBlanc was a native of Lafayette, La., and was engaged in railroad work for many years, having been a conductor, on the old Louisiana railway and Navigation Company's Line. He was a Spanish-American War veteran.

He was one of the leading members of the police jury, and always participated in the debates which took place at the various recurring sessions of that body. He was a man of pleasing personality, and has a large circle of friends, who will regret his untimely passing.

His body was prepared for burial by Hixson Bros., local funeral directors, and conveyed to his home at Latanier, where it will remain until 7 o'clock tomorrow morning, when it will be conveyed to Shreveport for interment. Services will be conducted at the Roll Osborn Funeral Home in Shreveport, by Rev. B.F. 1283 Obituary:

Harry K. Henson, 75, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Tullos, Louisiana passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro's Beacon Place.

A private celebration of his life will be held for the family Father's Day weekend.

Everyone knew him as "Harry K," and also as Papaw, KK, Crow and Eureka. He was born to the union of Harry Henry Henson and Pauline Knouse Henson in Pleasant Hill, La. on December 29th, 1942. He and his family later moved to Jefferson, Texas where he lived until the age of 10. The family then moved to Urania, La. where he met the love of his life, at age 11. As a young teen, Harry K. enjoyed hiking and exploring the local dense forests and was in awe of the historical loblolly pines not far from his home. His love of nature extended to many years of white perch fishing. He loved the study of world history and government and was very accomplished in his knowledge of both. He zealously studied, understood and loved the Word of God and was always ready to share that understanding of the Bible. He unfailingly extended a hand of friendship and kindness to all who crossed his path. When Harry was young, his dream was to drive big trucks in which he ended up doing for his family business (H&K Industries) as well as for Missouri Pacific out of Houston, Texas. He graduated from LaSalle High School in Olla, Louisiana in 1961. One June 12, 1964, he married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia (Pat) Ann Babcock whom he referred to as "Trish." Harry K. worked for Cities Service Oil Company that later became Occidental Petroleum in 1982. Mr. Henson retired in 1998 and moved to Greensboro, NC to be near his children and grandchildren. Anyone who knew Harry K. knew his love and dedication to LSU football. One of his favorite past times was sharing a video of LSU legend Billy Cannon, a Baton Rouge native and 1959 LSU graduate, the winner of the 1959 Heisman Trophy as a halfback. The video features Cannon's most memorable performance his senior season of 1959 against Ole Miss. Top-ranked LSU trailed the third-ranked Rebels 3-0 early in the fourth quarter when Cannon fielded a punt at the LSU 11 and broke seven tackles on his way to a winning touchdown, as the Tigers won 7-3. The run helped cement the Heisman Trophy for Cannon in 1959 and led the Tigers to the 1958 national championship. The radio call by the announcer along with the grainy black-and white film footage is one of Harry K's favorite stories and footage that he loved to share.

Harry K. was a devout Seventh Day Adventist and a member in good standing of the Charles F. Buck Masonic Lodge in Urania, La. for 34 years. After he moved to Greensboro, he was an active volunteer for Friends of Gateway Foundation for ten years where he orchestrated the food and beverage pickup for the annual art auctions to benefit Gateway Education Center and Special Needs Programs in Guilford County Schools. Later in retired life, Harry K. enjoyed fishing, golfing, eating Cajun food, having fish-fries and spending time with his family and grandchildren on beach trips and mountain trips.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Pat Henson of Greensboro, NC and his three children: son, Robin Pilcher, daughter, Lisa Bunch (Keith) and Lori Henson Shaw all of Greensboro.

He is also survived by three sisters who loved and adored him: Jane Henson Brandon, Paula Henson Brown (Bill) of Urania, La. and Virginia Henson Casement of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Also left to cherish his memory are his three grandchildren: Savannah Shaw of Durham, NC, Caroline Shaw of Greenville, NC and Krae Bunch of Greensboro, NC as well as a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a long-time friends who treasured him.

He will also be missed by his best buddy and pet Peekapoo, Pepe and of course his grand-dogs, Gary and Buster and great grand-dogs, Pup Hutch, Lula and Maisey and last but not least, his 28-year-old Siamese grandcat, Rowan.

The family would like to thank the many staff members at Heartland Living and Rehabilitation Center as well as the interdisciplinary team at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro and Beacon Place for the love and care he received and the love and support the family received in such a difficult time.

The family is being served by George Brothers Funeral Service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.

1292 Obituary:

Hayes Jackson was born on October 31, 1947 in Houston, Texas. Hayes left us to be with the Lord on July 10, 2015. Hayes was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had a blended family and loved each person with his whole heart. Family was his number one priority. It would not be unusual to walk into his home any given day and see that he and his wife Janet were hosting family members. Hayes would tell each person how they were his favorite and many even were called his princesses. Hayes' love extended outside the family. Actually his friends are family. Every Thanksgiving he and his wife Janet would host a houseful of people to give thanks and show their love with hospitality and, of course, good food. Halloween was always a favorite holiday full of family, friends, neighbors and, of course, always a "good" witch. It's always good to have your birthday honored. The easiest way to describe Hayes is that when he entered a room or your life you knew you had been blessed. He lights up a room with his wit and smile. A special note about Hayes is that he did occasionally misplace items. Anything from his precious hair brush to his car keys. We will have to leave it at that! Hayes loved horse racing. He dreamed of winning the Ruidosa All American. Hayes had black coffee in his reach at all times. Final Words: I know that if Hayes could address the audience he would thank you for being a part of his life and being here to celebrate it. Hayes leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 16 years Janet Wiley Jackson; sons Phillip and Vince Jackson; daughters Tracy Denham, Jamie Overby, Stephanie Godbey, Christi McKnight and Rita Nisbet, and the apple of his eyes, 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents Hayes Phillip Jackson, Sr. and Margie Faye Tomlin, sons Richard Hayes Jackson and Daniel Ray Houton; great-grandson Nathan Phillip Saldana. Pallbearers: grandsons, Brannon Jackson, Bailey Jackson, Bradley Barron, Dakota Olivier, nephew Jimmy James, son-in-law Richard Godbey, beloved friends Frank Ramon and C.W. Stout.

1299 Obituary:

Helen Elaine Warren Baker, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Midland, Texas, on May 25, 2014. Elaine was born July 17, 1925, in Houston, Texas, and grew up in College Station, where she was chosen Class Favorite her junior year at Texas A&M Consolidated High School. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, where she played the bugle in the prestigious Scottish Brigade. Elaine was born into a remarkable family. Her mother, Inez German Warren, (our "Nana"), was orphaned at an early age, lost her husband during the Great Depression when Elaine turned 13, and took on the roles of father, mother, and breadwinner. Inez reared Elaine and her two brothers without help, and even sent her two sons to college. Elaine's brothers, David Russell "Jack" Warren, and Alton Lionel "Jerry" Warren, subsequently built brilliant careers-- Jack as an engineer/inventor for Welex/Halliburton before he passed away, and Jerry, who is a geophysicist in Houston. Elaine made excellent grades in school, but always was in trouble for talking in class. In January 1944, Elaine boarded a train to St. Louis, Missouri to wed Lillo Munger Baker. From there, Lillo was sent to Europe with the U.S. Army in World War II, and Elaine returned home to Houston. Lillo survived the Battle of the Bulge and returned to Texas. They moved to Midland in 1947, and joined the First Presbyterian Church, where she taught President George W. Bush in third-grade Sunday school. In 1968, they left Midland, and moved four times before returning 26 years later, renewing treasured, old friendships. Elaine served as a volunteer for Midland Memorial Hospital, Midland Community Theatre, and for various organizations in Temple, Texas. She was a charter member of the Midland Symphony Guild, on the Board of Directors for the Abilene Opera Association, and a member of Midland Opera Theatre. In Abilene, she delighted in helping with costume changes and repairs backstage at the Paramount Theatre in Abilene. Laughing was Elaine's favorite pastime. She was a wonderful, fun-loving mother who kept the family busy with songs, stories, games, contests and wacky experiments. She held turtle races in the sixties, in which snapping turtles Robert Richard, Dumb Ole' Guthrie and others competed for prizes. Once, she greeted formal dinner guests wearing a hillbilly hat and messy wig, and often danced with her chartreuse chicken puppet at parties. She would laugh and play with her children, and could outsmart them, too. On occasion, her son Greg tried to sneak out of the house, so she nailed the windows shut. Greg said he knew she had done it because of the crooked nails. Elaine's innocent one-liners were clever, including, "I can't sleep in the car unless I'm driving." On losing loved ones, she said, "I just wish we could all die at once." Recently, she talked about beautiful "G" Street Park, near their home on Storey St., "And it had good tadpoles, too!" After an appendectomy a few years ago, she claimed, "I had everything I was born with till they took out my appendix. I was kind of sorry to lose that. I wanted to be complete." She worked hard at keeping a beautiful lawn and garden, and sewed curtains and clothes like a professional. She was happiest in the company of her family--Greg, Beth and Charlie, daughter Beverly, who preceded her in death, and the dear friends and hallmates of Manor Park, aka "Mana Parka Epsilon." She is survived by her son, Greg Baker of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and daughter, Beth Qualia and husband Charlie of Midland, Texas. The family wishes to thank Brenda Dunn, Maria Adame, Mary Pena and Hospice of Midland for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable donation to Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Midland, 714 W. Louisiana Ave., Midland, Texas 79701, New Direction Ministry, (founded by True-Lite Christian Fellowship), P.O. Box 1541, Midland, Texas 79702, or to The Aphasia Center, 5214 Thomason, Midland, Texas 79703. Private services will be held at First Presbyterian Church. In memory of Elaine's independent spirit and joyful life, family and friends will gather for a memorial dinner at Midland Country Club in the coming days.
