| 2751 | Obituary: Mrs. Elias Simon Rites Set Friday CROWLEY, La. - Mrs. Elias Simon, 57, of Crowley, died in the American Legion Hospital at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday following an illness of about two weeks. Funeral services have been scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Woodlawn cemetery. The body will remain at the Geesey - Ferguson Funeral Home until the time of the rites. Mrs. Simon was the mother of Miss Janice Simon, 18 year olf beauty who will represent Crowley at the International Rice Festival this year. The former Tazie Clement, Mrs. Simon was born Nov. 17, 1900, in Rayne. She moved to Crowley in 1921 and had been a resident since that time. Besides her daughter, Janice, Mrs. Simon is survived by her husband; another daughter, Mrs. Harold Mire of Crowley; three sons, Elmo, Oren, and Richard Simon, all of Crowley; three brothers, Walter Clement of Rayne, B.B. Clement of Lake Charles, and Elphie Clement of Rayne; two sisters, Mrs. M. J. | 2752 | Obituary: MRS. ELIZABETH PRICE Mrs. Elizabeth Witholder Price, 54, of 3949 Altura Ave., died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was a native of El Paso and was an employe of the Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Co. 33 years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Pioneers of America. She is survived by one son, Malcolm Price, and one sister, Mrs. J. C. Ford, both of El Paso. Funeral mass will be said at 10 a m Thursday in St Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel F. Kennelly officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Kaster and Maxon. Andrus Dies Suddenly At Home Of Daughter Mrs. Emma Ruth Andrus, age 79, died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Powell with whom she made her home, early Friday night, Feb. 3. The deceased, who before her marriage was Miss Emma Ruth Folsom, was born and reared in Madison County. Shew as a member of the First Baptist church and was faithful in attendance. Her husband, the late Dallas Andrus, preceded her in death 38 years. Survivors include four sons, Ike Andrus of Dallas, J. H. Andrus of North Zulch, W. L. Andrus of Pierce and H. C. Andrus of Hawkins, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Ona Harris of San Antonio, Mrs. Henry Powell of Madisonville, Mrs. Herman Denman of North Zulch, Mrs. Willie Weaver of Houston; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral service was held at the Willowhole Baptist church Sunday, Feb. 5, at 3 o'clock with Rev. A. J. Hosea and Rev. Fleming McDuffie of North Zulch conducting the service with was under the direction of Day Funeral Home. Pallbearers were grandsons, Milton Andrus, Oliver Andrus, Dallas Andrus, Ray Harris, Billie Powell and Johnny Adams. Granddaughters served as flower girls. Burial was in Willowhole cemetery. Pallbearers were "Chuck" Fremaux, Walter Raymond, Brian McBride, Frank and Kenny Privat, and Edwin Ousse, Jr. A native of Lorena, Tex., she was the widow of the late Walter Joseph McBride, member of one of Rayne's earliest families, a durggist and former member of the Rayne City Council. Mrs. McBride was a long-time member of Axuiliary Unit of Arceneaux Post, American Legion. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. A.E. | 2759 | Obituary: Mrs. Eva Claire McBride Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Claire McBride, 85, who died at the Rayne-Branch Hospital at 4:15 p.m. Saturday after a lengthy illness, were held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Paul Belliveau, C.J.M., officiated, and music for the Mass was provided by Willie Etta Servat, soloist, and Caroline Kuon, organist. Pallbearers were "Chuck" Fremaux, Walter Raymond, Brian McBride, Frank and Kenny Privat and Edwin Ousse, Jr. For the entrance Hymn, "Rock of Ages" was provided, while other beautiful selections, sung by Miss Servat, accompanied by Mr. Kuon, included "Panis Angelicus," "How Great Thou Art," and "Only A Shadow." Stephen Raymond, a grandson, provided the Readings for the Mass, including the always beautiful Shepherd's Psalm. Father Belliveau used the Gospel message, "Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled" as theme of his most comforting Homily, reminding that Jesus has said "I go to prepare a place for you that where I am, you may be also. God's great gift is of Peace, and even on the morning of His Ascension, He left us his Peace-making us understand the glory of Eternity and what the word Peace really means. "Losing someone very dear to us is always a sad time, but Eva Claire now understands the deep meaning of God's Peace, and we can rejoice and be thankful that through her death we can come close to understanding that Peace. 'Follow Me' were Jesus' parting words to his Disciples, and this is what we need to do each day of our lives-as we journey to God, may we continue to grow in the beautiful Peace of God, which Eva Claire has now gained." Native of Lorena, Texas, she was the widow of the late Walter Joseph McBride, member of one of Rayne's earliest families, a druggist and former member of the Rayne City Council. Mrs. McBride was a long-time member of the Auxiliary Unit of Arceneaux Post, American Legion. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. A.E. (Jerry) Raymond, Jr. of Rayne and Mrs. Gabriel Alvandian, the former Mary Robin McBride, of West Haven, Conn.; six grandchildren, Gabriel, Daniel and Gregory Alvandian, Stephen and Walter Raymond and Mrs. James R. Bush, Jr., the former Mary Ann Raymond; and two great grandchildren, Mary Katherine and Michael James Bush. Gossen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Over many years, "Walter and Eva Claire" were part of an intimate circle of friends who share many happy memories of our children growing up together, contributing to community activities and growth, and enjoying many family-like events. She leaves as lovely remembrance of a gentle and loving individual, who as her family recalls, could "stand six feet tall" when the occasion arose. She was a member of Caldwell Brethren's Christian Sisters Society, Sunday school and choir. She was a gardener who loved flowers. Mrs. Sebesta was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Sebesta, in 1976. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Franklin J. and Pat Sebesta of Caldwell; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Emmitt Ross of Victoria; a sister, Mrs. E.W. Survivors are her husband, retired rural mail carrier of this city; one daughter, Mary Helen Daigle of this city; seven sons, Rev. She graduated from Gallatin High School Class of 1954, where she played on the ladies basketball team, wearing #54 on her jersey. While in high school, she worked as a soda jerk at Woods Drugstore in Jacksonville. She loved to fish and ride around and take in the countryside. She is a member of Grace Fellowship Church. Mrs. Andrus is survived by her daughters: Sheila Hassell and husband Keith of Rusk, Brenda Dominy and husband Earl of Rusk, Starla Lattaro of Jacksonville; sons Jakie Walker of Tyler and Danny Shugart and wife Robbie of Bullard; stepson: Duane Andrus and wife Dene of Sulphur Springs; stepdaughters: Vicky Lucas and Kim Andrus; her caretaker that she loved like a daughter: Lynn Mettlen and husband Myrel; as well as a multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Herman Andrus; daughter: Debra Walker and her brothers and sisters. Dr. James W. Middleton pastor of the First Baptist Church of Shreveport, where Mrs. Hodges had been a member for several years, will officiate at the services at the Central Baptist Church of Springhill. The Rev. Dean Elkins, pastor of the church, will assist. Burial is to be in Cotton Valley. The accident occurred during a rainstorm. Mrs. Hodges had attended the graduation of a niece, Miss Thelma Houston of Sarepta, driver of the car in which she was riding. Miss Houston and two sisters, also from Sarepta, were injured slightly. Mrs. Hodges was the widow of G. Egan Hodges, founder of the Hodges Storage Co. of Shreveport. A native of Sarepta, she moved here about 38 years ago, and last year moved to Springhill to live with a sister, Mrs. Gertie Cochran. Interment will be in the Forest Park cemetery under the direction of Osborne's funeral home. Mrs. Houston was born in Columbus, Texas, Feb. 7, 1875. Later with her parents she moved to Queen City, Ark., and later to Stamps, Ark. She was employed in Stamps by the Bodcaw Lumber company. She was married in Queen City in 1904. The couple moved to Shreveport in 1912. Mrs. Houston had been an active member of the First Baptist church since that time. Surviving besides the widower, are a son, Earl Lafayette Houston, and two daughters, Miss Frances Eloise Houston and Lucile Dance Houston, one sister Mrs. J. E. She died at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Leroy Dubois of New York City, N. Y. and Dunice Dubois of San Bruno, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Randolf Landry, of Kaplan; two sisters, Mrs. Azery Frederick of Abbeville and Mrs. Enus Dubois of Kaplan; 10 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. | 2797 | Obituary: Mrs. Hunter Funeral Rites Held Here Today Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Hunter, 70, who died Tuesday following a long illness, were held at 4:00 PM today from the First Methodist Church. The Rev. Don Youngblood, pastor, officiated. Burial was m the New Electra Cemetery under direction of the James B. Totten and Son Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Paul Jones, Paul Rapp, Paul Weaver, Howard McDonald, Homer McDonald, and Johnny R. Brown. A resident of Wichita County for about 40 years, Mrs. Hunter had resided in Electra the past 25 years. She was born February 10, 1893, in Texas. Her husband, G. A. Hunter, is a retired oil operator and drilling contractor. Survivors include her husband; three sons, A. T. Hunter of Wichita Falls, L. Allen Hunter of Dallas, and Weldon E. Hunter of Kermit; two daughters, Mrs. Nell Carriker of Carlsbad, NM, and Mrs. Raymond Stanford of Electra, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. | 2798 | Obituary: MRS. I. N. HOUSTON DIES HERE TUESDAY; RITES WEDNESDAY Well-Known Church Worker and Wife of Business Man Succumbs. Mrs. Cora Dance Houston, 60, wife of I. N. Houston, well-known local lumberman and businessman, died at a local sanitarium at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning with Dr. M. E. Dodd, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Park cemetery under the direction of Roll Osborn & Sons funeral home. Surviving besides the husband are a son, Earl Lafayette Houston, and two daughters, the Misses Frances Eloise and Lucile Dance Houston. Another son, I. N., Jr., died some years ago. Mrs. Houston was born at Columbia, Texas, Feb. 7, 1875, and, when a young girl, she resided at Queen City, Texas. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Dance. Later she was employed by the Bodcaw Lumber Co. at Stamps, Ark., where she met Mr. Houston. They were married in 1904 at Queen City and made their home for a time at Stamps. Later they moved to Goodpine, La., and in 1912 moved to Shreveport. Mrs. Houston had been a devoted church member most of her life. She joined the First Baptist church here in 1913. Her church work was always a great joy to her and she was a lovely Christian character with a large circle of friends. She had an unusually sympathetic disposition and did much charity work. | 2799 | Obituary: Mrs. Ima Smith Of Salona Dies BOWIE, Texas, July 10 (Special) - Mrs. Ima Smith, 59, former resident of Wichita Falls, died at her home in the Salona Community, 10 miles east of here late Wednesday after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday from the First Baptist Church with Rev. E. S McCurley, pastor of the Wichita Falls Victory Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery under direction of Owens-Brumley Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born in Lamar County. She moved to Salona Community from Wichita Falls where she lived for 20 years. Survivors include her husband. E. Q. Smith of Salona Community: three step-children whom she reared; V. L. Smith of Olton; N. J. Smith of Lamesa and a daughter, Mrs. Nora Mae Riley of Houston: four brothers, Earl McIntyre of Denison, J. B. McIntyre of Bowie, Robert McIntyre of Dallas and Jessie McIntyre of Los Angeles: five sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Leonard, Mrs. E. M. Hern, both of Wichita Falls, Mrs. Vera Rogers of San Angelo, Mrs. Virgil Bloskeskey of Raymondville and Mrs. Bessie Howell of Big Spring; also surviving are three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. | 2800 | Obituary: Mrs. J. L. Spence Dead Mrs. J. L. Spence of North Jonesboro died at her home yesterday morning, Thus the last smallpox victim is released by death instead of the health board. Mrs. Spence had been ill for two weeks, and was thought to be doing very well. In fact it was hoped that she would be able to be up and released from quarantine within a few days, but she grew worse and died as stated.
