| 1330 | Obituary: Fannie Carroll Youngblood December 22, 1940 - December 19, 2023 Our beloved mother, Fannie Carroll Youngblood sadly passed away on December 19th 2023 surrounded by her closest family in the comfort of her home. Until the end, she maintained her kindness, grace, appreciation for family and friends, and most importantly, her strong faith in God and her savior Jesus Christ. She lived a life that was full of love, success, and memorable experiences. She was born in 1940 in the small town of Sarepta, Louisiana to her father Lee Houston and mother Nova Mitchell and was one of five sisters that included Thelma, Mary, Martha, and Virginia. It was there, as a very young girl, working on the farm that she learned valuable life lessons of respect, discipline, responsibility, and hard work. This part of her life would shape who she would become. After high school she left to pursue higher education at Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Natchitoches. During her time in college, she enjoyed studying, fellowship with classmates, playing tennis, and also dancing on the University dance team now known as the Demon Dazzlers. During this time she pursued a degree in Education with a focus on children with special needs. One of the most memorable experiences at Northwestern would be meeting a young student named Ray Youngblood to whom she would marry in 1961. After graduating from Northwestern State University in 1962, she became an Air Force officer's wife when her new husband became a 2nd, Lieutenant. During her years as an officer's wife, she would have two children Tanya and Russell and they would live in various cities as she continued to teach school while her husband pursued active military service in the United States Air Force. In 1977, she and Ray became Amway Independent Business Owners, achieving the level of Diamond Direct Disributors. Through Carroll's many years of teaching and building a very successful worldwide business she touched tens of thousands of lives until the very end. Carroll was many things to many people a friend, a mentor, a leader, and a prayer warrior. Whether she was speaking to one individual or 20 thousand people in a coliseum, you knew that she was speaking from the heart. But the most important accomplishment of her life was her Christian Walk. Her Faith and Belief in God was solid and unyielding. Her constant desire was to please her Heavenly Father through generously and joyously giving to, loving, and serving other people. Of all the titles Carroll had, the greatest titles in life were that of a Child of God, a wife, a mom, and Nana to her surviving four grandchildren Ethan, Bryan, Caroline, and Lauren. | 1343 | Obituary: FIGHTING FIRE IS FATAL FOR AGED WOMAN MRS. SARAH GREER, 85, LOSES HER LIFE WHEN FLAMES THREATEN HOME Funeral Today BODY IS SEVERELY BURNED AND CHARRED BEFORE HELP IS GIVEN News of the tragic death of Mrs. Sarah Greer, aged 85 years who was burned to death late Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son, Avery Greer in the Peach Creek community, reached Bryan this morning. Reports of the sad accident are to the effect that Mrs. Greer, and the other members of the family, who were at home at the time, saw the high, dry grass in the pasture near the house burning, and as the fire increased and was fast getting nearer the house, went out to fight against it. While trying to put out the grass fire, Mrs. Greer's clothing caught fire, and were burned off her, her body also becoming deeply burned and charred. So seriously was the aged woman injured, that she died before a doctor could reach the home. Deceased has been a resident of Brazos county for more than sixty years, having lived in Bryan with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin, before the days of the Civil War. Only two sisters and one brother of the once large family survive: Mrs. Tom Caywood, and Mrs. Jane Collard of Bryan and Monroe Martin of Batesville, Texas. Three sons also survive the aged mother: Avery Greer, with whom she made her home, George Greer, and Bud Greer, all of Brazos county. The body was prepared for burial, and the funeral conducted under the direction of McCulloch-Dansby, funeral directors of Bryan, with interment made at the old Sims cemetery near Millican in the southern part of Brazos county. The hour of the funeral was ten o'clock Wednesday, August 16, and many old time friends and neighbors, who knew and loved the deceased were present to pay the last sad tribute of respect to her memory. To the bereaved family, and other relatives, sincere and heartfelt sympathy is extended in this sad hour of sorrow, because of the tragic death of mother, and grandmother, whose long life has been such a benediction to them, and whose sudden death brings them such untold grief.
